When do decisions come out?

They’re out now

Dont you worry. CGA loves reapplicants. There is also other ways to go. OCS, CSPI, Maritime Universities. TAMU (corps of cadets). Dont look as it as denial look at as a pause. You may contact admissions and try to identify what you were missing in this years application.

My youngest was denied for CGA. It was a long shot for her. She went to civilian college got the full college experience while playing div1 sports. She was waitlist for the 2 year CSPI scholarship award, but got the 1 year award and successfully completed OCS.

It's 12:08 AM eastern time (my time too) on 12/23, decisions aren't out yet. Do they come out later? When?

I'm restless, CGA is my number one dream school. How do I deal with a denial?
You control how you feel about this journey and outcomes along the way. You will realize there is no use expending mental energy on things you don’t control.

It’s useful to walk through the worst possible case scenario and realize, in fact, you are not likely to die if you are not offered an appointment.

Instead, you will cheerfully and determinedly pivot to your well-planned alternate path, and assess along the way if you intend to reapply to USCGA, and while excelling in your alternate plan, you deftly execute your parallel re-application plan. If you re-apply, you will demonstrate proven ability to succeed in challenging college courses that mimic first year USCGA academics, improved essays that show continued personal growth and maturity, ongoing participation in athletic, personal physical fitness and leadership development. There, that’s done.

If offered a prep school appointment, grab it gleefully, because that means USCGA wants you, thinks you need some polishing and is saving a seat for you in 2028. That’s done.

Taken aback, a bit shocked or embarrassed you didn’t get in on first attempt? Admit you are human and allot yourself a 10-minute personal pity party, then move on as discussed above. That’s done.

Work your brain through it all, mentally role play each thoughtful reaction and response, and if USCGA is your interim goal to your dream of serving as a Coast Guard officer, you press on - over, around, under, every obstacle. I have seen it mentioned here on SAF many times that the Admissions Dept is willing to talk with candidates not offered an appintment this cycle and give them constructive feedback.

If you are offered an appointment, proceed forthwith to happy dance. If this is just the EA round, are you not then deferred to RA round, so you are still in play for this cycle?

I'm really sorry to hear that. If this is something your really want, its not over. My DS was denied by all SA last year. He was crushed. He went to a state school this year, worked really hard on fitness and academics and reapplied. So far has received LOA from USMA and USCGA. I'm sure it hurts now, but just try and keep your head up and pushing! Like everyone else says... control what you can control.

Hang in there. If you really want it, there are countless stories of people who reapply with success....spend a year knocking it down in college somewhere with great grades...self prep at a military school...train and blow the PFE out of the water, etc.

Even Captain Fredie shared his story of how he was denied two years in a row I believe then a CGAS appointment on his 3rd attempt (I think I got that right). Now he's over admissions at the academy!!

Don't give up the ship!

As many have said reapplying is a legit option….I can’t even count the number of cadets w my DD in the class of 2026 who were reapplicants … some more than one time. Also our DD was deferred from EA, waitlisted in RA and appointed 27 days before Day 1 … so don’t give up the dream

Would you mind letting me know how you confirmed a college offers CSPI. My CGA applicant was rolled to RA and she was accepted to 2-colleges we think they offer CSPI. our plan on January is to visit the colleges local CG office to confirm or not. Any other way outside confirming the schools are on a MSI list?

Do an Internet search of "minority serving institutions list" and locate the 26-page list (PDF) compiled by Rutgers University.

My DD was moved to RA. She will let them know she's still interested and she is planning on improving her PFE score. She will send in her first semester grades but there really isn't any improvement to be had. In 4 years of high school she got one B her Junior year. Otherwise she has straight As and her first semester was all A's. More waiting; it says final decisions will be out by April 1st.

Did she submit test scores or apply test optional?
