When do rejections come out?

Last year there was a great big wave of TWE's that were sent to portal on 20th or 21st of April.

I think the candidate booklet says letters of non-selection are sent by April 21st

The booklet says that candidates will be selected for appointments during February-March. Does that mean if you don't get anything during that time that you are receiving a TWE?

Non-select is a bummer. USAFA wants applicants who receive a TWE to understand their chances for admission this cycle are very very unlikely to happen and that they should move on to Plan B.

@Tekkat Appointments do still go out right up until BCT, but the numbers are far fewer. The vast majority of appointments will go out before 1 May. As they inch closer to the BCT start date, some appointees will decline their appointment and depending on overall numbers, admissions can offer a few more slots to candidates who are on the NWL -- and in some cases, those who received a TWE. The goal of USAFA admissions is to maximize the yield for the cycle. Meaning - if they can bring in 1152 students and stay under their congressionally authorized numbers, they really want to hit as close to the max number as possible. Remember, the class size only gets smaller and never grows as a class marches towards graduation.

In April of last year, there was a notice on the portal that decisions would be made by 4/21. On that date, most TWEs went out. However there were a few appointments and falcon scholarship offers after that date. Those who received later appointments or falcon foundation offers were the few who were still in candidate status on 4/21.

So true!! For my DS, his first application was for c/o 2023, he was med DQ with no waiver requested and the wait was much easier. Last year, "limbo" status for my DS started on 21 April with candidate status still showing in portal after the big TWE drop. On Mother's Day (10 May) he received the FFS offer. Those weeks in limbo were more stressful than the waiting between mid-January (with 2 noms and 3Q status) through the big TWE drop.

The waiting truly is the hardest part and it ain't over 'till it's over. Try marking your calendar for the date listed in the candidate booklet and think of that as the date you'll hear something, it will make the waiting easier. If you hear news before then, hopefully it's good and your waiting ends early. It doesn't hurt to check your portal occasionally, since you don't want to accidentally miss an email. Remember though, a watched pot takes longer to boil. Between now and then, live your life, continue to make good decisions, prepare and work on plans B-E.

Plan for Plan B...My DD is set for Plan B so she's not consantly worrying about an academy. And it has really made her much happier and less anxious knowing that she's ready if an academy doesn't work out. It isn't easy when friends that aren't applying for academies are committing to other schools and planning their futures while these fine students are pulling their hair out waiting....

EXACTLY the same situation here with my DD. Her friends are selecting roommates and planning for sorority rush..she is looking at boots for BCT. 😂 She has had a good attitude but is just so ready for answers.

I am so proud of the work she has put into this. Praying that she....no WE...don’t have to wait until April to hear!! 😅

Hey all!

Don't put faith in dates from the past. While they "may" be close to this cycle, they may be off. This cycle is VERY different. We have candidates being evaluated that have no SAT or ACT scores; we have candidates with those scores, and many other iterations. And all of this has to be worked out, digested, and "figgered out" by RRS before they begin the mass mailing.

That being said, don't discount the ability of those folks!! They are amazing!! I'm truly awed by the amount of work they've been doing the past six months and almost all of it from home.

Officially, they have not told ALO's of any "expect this" dates.

How much of a role will ACT/SAT scores play this year? AFROTC scholarship did not need any test scorest this year. My son is a finalist for the AFROTC scholarship, but really wants acceptance to the AFA.

Nobody on this forum has that answer. I have no idea. I'm as curious as parents as I'm an ALO and I have some great candidates with ACT/SAT scores and I have some great candidates without ACT/SAT scores. How will they be compared? How will they be scored, weighted? I have no idea. What I do know is that USAFA/RRS has been working on this for a LONG time. In my mind, it's a nightmare scenario: what do you do?

Trust that they have a plan in place and are executing their plan. They want the best; test scores or no test scores...and they'll have a way to determine who those candidates are.

We just wait and go a little crazy...

I would just hate for the academy to lose out on such a fine young man due to a lower than average test score. Yes, I am his father but he has all the tools and the results to back up my claim. He has been dreaming for this since he was 12. His plan B is already in place scholarship or not.

It was my dream since middle school, I've been rejected twice but I'm still here. A rejection doesn't = end of the road. Keep your head up and it's not over until there's a TWE that says it is. However, the past two years I've been at UC Berkeley and I'm beyond thankful for the growth and opportunities I've had attending. Those two years definitely prepared me better than anything else could have for the responsibilities as a cadet.

How do you know if you’re a “finalist” for an AFROTC scholarship? DS son’s portal says “STATUS: Eligible”. I see nothing saying ”finalist” or “semi-finalist” status...

There are different AFROTC HSSP boards. If your DS says eligible, you're probably on the February board instead of the December (I believe) one.
