When do they get moved out?

I gave 4 plebes a ride home today from spring break in warmer climates and none could give me a good answer for when they "move out". One jokingly said I could pick him up tomorrow, (obviously not thrilled to go back in cold rain today!) But seriously is it after Herndon climb? Or after graduation which is May 27th this year. Or after exams. They were not sure but I need to schedule day off to get there. Navy hoops or anyone out there? Thanks

What do you mean by "move out?" Normally they have to move out of the room by graduation day...there use to be an inspection immediately following graduation to officially turn over the room (maybe some current MIDN can comment if this is still the SOP). As far as when they can leave the yard might depend on their summer training schedule.

I think firsties are still the only ones authorized to resides outside USNA (Bancroft Hall) from conclusion of final exams to graduation, provided they are in good standing.

Current MIDN...this correct?

This may help - but it depends.

The majority have their stuff packed up Commissioning Week, as graduation day wraps up the academic year. They then scatter on leave or training or sometimes just to sponsors' house for the weekend. They may have to check in for whatever they are doing Block 1 if it starts locally and any required training or briefings throughout the weekend. Summer school starts next class day. We have ferried many a mid/stuff to storage units in town that week and to BWI on Friday night or Saturday morning after bunking at our house. This is after we have hit 4-5 graduation parties for the new ensigns and 2LTs we sponsored. Annapolis is cheerful bedlam that week.

Prior to that, some may have Block Zero starting right after exams, and they may have to get their stuff out of rooms and company area before they depart for that. Block Zero is wedged in between exam period end and graduation.

Most will get a few days' inter-sessional leave after their last exam and prior to their report back date sometime before Commissioning Week, unless they have Block Zero.

There will be guidance given out in companies about end-of-year procedures, and as always, plenty of gouge from upper class.

Many mids share a storage locker at many of the storage unit places in Annapolis. Convenient to stash gear/uniforms/books and get to it as needed during the summer.

Mids usually send uniforms to storage at USNA during the summer, keeping back what they need. There used to be locker storage in 7th wing, but there is never enough for 3000+ mids' worth of stuff. There used to be an option to store computers and peripherals on the Yard, but most of the mids we sponsored stored it elsewhere.

Clear storage totes and a sharpie are handy to have.

landlock, it sounds like you are close to the academy? It helps if your plebe is looking to stash some of their stuff. My mid was a plebe last year. Within 12 hours of taking his last final, he was on a plane across the country for a zero block cruise. He missed sea trials and Herndon, but also had to essentially be moved out of his room before he left. It was a good challenge for him as he does not have the greatest organization skills. Some of his things stayed in storage at academy, some came home with us for the summer(we're 2 hours away). There is some storage at Bancroft but it seems a lot of mids supplement that by stashing stuff at sponsors homes or renting storage space with other mids.

Only your Mid will be able to provide guidance on this one. They really don't need much once finals hit. Most of their stuff you can load up and take and only leave minimal items behind, but this will also depend on leave schedule, training schedules, etc. They will get lots of guidance on this as training schedules have been released, finals, intersessionals, etc. Your best bet, if your kid doesn't have 0 block and comes home intersessional leave, load up the car then. They will only need minimal items from that point on anyways.

What happens if your mid has Block 1 summer school? Do they have to move out of their school year room and into another room?

Yes they do have to move out. USNA will section out the different wings to keep sports camps together, summer school, NASS, STEM, YPs, etc. Not much is needed for summer school.

On graduation afternoon, the Brigade is dispersed. Wings/decks of Bancroft Hall get assigned to various programs, as Hoops has noted. The 24th company officer, with an ac year office in 5th Batt area in 6th Wing, will be assigned elsewhere over the summer, and someone else will use his/her office. When I was a BattO, I dashed back to my Bancroft office on graduation afternoon, threw things in a box, and carried it to another BattO's office in another wing to start my summer job. At the end of Block 3, the Brigade reforms, all staff move back to ac year spaces.

A mid ends the year in company area, could be in another wing for a summer school block, and shift to another one for YPs. Upon Reform, it's back to company area, most likely different room.
