Hi everyone! I’ve opened my NROTC application and have talked to the teachers who will be doing my letters of rec. for the application. I’m wondering how long it will take for the email to be sent to them from the time I put in their information? I’d like to be able to give them a heads up on when to expect the emails, but am unsure when the emails are sent to them. Not sure if it’s immediately after putting in their information or randomly. I put in my guidance counselors information the other day, and he did not receive anything. Again, I’m not sure if you have to get to a certain point in the application for them to be sent or if they’re sent immediately etc. If anyone has any insight on this, I would really appreciate it! I’m also curious about this for USNA and USMA, if anyone knows anything about that as well. Thanks!

I'm not sure if there are differences between the Navy and Marine options, but my DS was Marine option, and I don't believe his counselor, teachers or coach ever received any type of email after he submitted the application. He and I both assumed that they would receive an evaluation to submit electronically. Instead, after my son completed the application but before submitting it online, he saved and printed a copy, and took it to our local recruiting office where he had met with someone before. He was told okay thanks, looks good, so he then submitted it electronically. Later on (I want to say it was several weeks) he received an email from that same sergeant, to which a very large packet of information was attached. He was told to complete it and bring all of it to his interview and PFT. This packet included evaluation forms for coaches, counselors, an English teacher, a Math teacher (even though they did not ask for a Math teacher in the online application) and the actual evaluation forms that the interviewers would use during his interview. He had to fill in his name and social security number on the top of each, and then give the forms to the teachers, coaches, etc... to fill out and return to him. He then brought all of it to his interview and PFT. This was kind of the opposite of how I thought it would go, so if you (like us) have a recruiter who is not super helpful, be prepared for the unexpected and just go with it. We felt like we had done a lot of research on what to do beforehand but still had many unanswered questions. It's great that you are starting early! We did not, and that made it all the more stressful. Maybe it is different for the Navy option, I don't know.

I can’t answer the expectations question; however, make sure your schools computer safety system will allow for contact communications. My DS ran into this issue and the school had to do something to their security system for the teachers and guidance to receive any emails.

I’m an engineer but not a computer engineer so don’t ask me.
