I have been "out" of the forum recently. This is not because I'm walking away or anything.

I deployed to Louisiana awhile ago to work in the Unified Area Command External Affairs in support of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill response.

Long hours (about 15 hours yesterday and 16 hours the day before), but the work is rewarding and we're trying very hard to not only stop the spill, but clean it up.

Where can you get all of your information, including breaking press releases?

Check out www.deepwaterhorizonresponse.com. You can even sign up for the mailing list to get updates.

Before heading to the UAC, I was at the National Incident Command (NIC) in DC (for about a month).

Thank you for your work on that, I can imagine that's a very tough job. Good luck and keep us posted.

Wow - LITS good luck to you. Thanks for the link.
Have you been out on the water yet?
I saw on TV last night that the oil on the water is beginning to make people sick. Will those working on shore or in boats need to wear respirators?
It is so awful for all the people whose livlihoods are on the line both in fishing and tourism as well as the wildlife. Looks like this will take years (decades) to recover from.

As soon as I got home from USAFA Summer Seminar, I went to my beloved Pensacola Beach. There are little pieces of oil in the water and on the sand. There are cleanup workers with shovels and bags walking around and my dad stopped one of them and asked why they weren't picking it up. He replied with "We have to keep walking." What's up with that? It's sad, there are a ton of kids and adults playing in the water. All I did was walk along the waterline and I have oil on my feet. I can't imagine what their skin looks like.

Pensacola Beach is heaven. If you have a Gulf vacation scheduled, please do not cancel...they really need our tourism dollars like never before.

Don't just not cancel... Schedule one! These are the most beautiful beaches you will ever see. And hey, Jimmy Buffet was out here yesterday (he just bought a hotel out here that he is turning into a Margaritaville) so you know its good.

When I go to a beach vacation, it's usually Destin, but this year it will be St. Augustine. Love Destin, but I like the water too.
