Where Are They Now?

DS just earned his SWO pin today. He has about 6 weeks left on his ship before he gets to come home for a few weeks leave before heading off to nuke school (a short school prior to that). I am planning my retirement so he will be here on my last day of work and retirement party. He will buy a car while home, then I will make the cross country trip with him. Golf, a football game and lots of quality time on tap for the trip.
What a great update! Thank you.

Congrats to your DS! And congrats on retirement. Big month for your household.

DD now has a DD-214 and is a Veteran. Seemingly yesterday she went through the Naval Academy application process but was not granted an eye waiver. She earned her commission through a West Coast NROTC Unit. She invited me, her mother and youngest brother to hike a long trail in Italy. We are having fun eating and seeing the sights as we walk to Rome. She asked me about life after the Navy. I told her she'll miss it and it'll be a little different on the "outside." She knows that and is seeing it now. I'm just a sounding board now as she figures out the next phase of her life. I was lucky to visit her in each of her duty stations and see her off when her ship deployed. I was also pier side in Norfolk when another of her ships returned from deployment. For now, it's been fun reminiscing over wine, prosciutto. pasta, and gelato. Twenty years. Where did they go?
