Leadership opportunities.
You need to assume leadership roles and to be able to tell stories of what you’ve done in those roles. How will those experiences shape you as a future leader? Strive to be the captain of your team, then be able to speak to what you did as the captain… It’s more than calling the coin toss and leading stretches. Do something different/unique- start a captains club for your school or a mentorship program for the athletics department. Start talking with your coaches now about goals for next season.
good luck!

Run for senator or governor at Boys State I also agree with leadership opportunities. Look for some in your NJROTC unit. It was perfect for my DD. Good luck, and I hope you reach all of goals!

It never hurts to raise test scores, but you look good. Make sure to stick with wrestling (West Point loves team sports) and like the guy above me try to be a captain of the team.

Super impressive ASVAB score btw, I don't know if they will look into that though.

I assume you're on top of everything but just to make sure, do everything as soon as you can. I'm pretty sure SLE registration opened up today, so apply for that and open your candidate questionnaire.

When the official portal opens on August 1st, strive to complete your application as quickly as you comfortably can. The main thing that will take your time is the Candidate statement section of the application (essays). Start thinking now about why you want to go to West Point and try to make it more specific than "I want to serve my country" or "I want to join something bigger than myself." They get plenty of those already.

You're looking good man, keep it up!

Your accomplishments look great, I would highly recommend Boys State, our son was humbled to be elected governor, that led to Boys Nation, both led to more opportunities. No one hear can say how you interview, or what your teacher evals and essays will be. I would suggest continuing the relationship with your teachers and sharing your desire to attend a SA. Improve your essay skills, practice or participate in mock interviews, not fluffy ones, tough ones. Stay healthy and out of trouble, good luck to you in this journey :)

Agree with everything in this thread. With your background, the higher the test scores the better (same goes for everyone). Take the ACT too - some kids score better comparatively on one versus the other. Cannot hurt due to super-scoring. Get your Reading north of 650 to be more competitive. Your extracurriculars are good. Quality over quantity, so try for leadership positions where possible. Take AP tests too and put on resume if your scores are consistently 3s, 4s, & 5s. If mostly 1s and 2s? then leave off resume. Go to Boys State, behave, and have fun. It is the easiest way for candidates (Girls State for the ladies) to gain easy "leadership" points even if you do not get elected to the top posts statewide. Train early and often for your CFA now and try to get scores posted at least by September - by December at the latest. If you cannot pass the CFA, no sense in completing rest of file or trying to get a nomination. Shoot for averages and seek counsel from your field force rep. Every year we see candidates bust tail to complete files and get nominations and then leave the CFA to the end - do it early.
