Where do I apply?

I would also like to mention to everyone that I live in an EXTREMELY competitive district. Getting a nomination for USMMA would be much, much easier than USMA or USNA.

I think that is a fallacy. The fact is USMMA is much much smaller than USMA or USNA. (I think they only have about 400 per year group compared to 1000 for USNA and USMA). You can't take the leap that nobody else has had the exact same thought.
~ Yes, I know for USMMA you can apply to every cong. in the state, whereas for USNA/USMA you can only apply to your cong.

Using my premise of 535 MoCs, than for USMMA there is no national pool. USNA and USMA offer @1350 every year. Add the 100 Presidential, and you have about 700 that will be charged via different routes for the pool.
~ Typically competitive districts also have candidates with very competitive stats from a national aspect.
~~ VA MoCs talk. 1 nomination to 1 SA is the best that most can hope for when applying. Yet, come appointment time many come off the national list.

Thus, the old statement exists....all you need is that 1 nomination. I don't know the stats for % appointed for USMMA, but if it is like the sister services, @16%, than your chances are not any better with the USMMA over USNA and USMA even from a competitive district.

Finally, my DS got 3 noms in NC. The Senators did a nomination ceremony. The program for Sen. Dole listed one candidate that had both USMA and USMMA. Sen. Burr did not have any on more than one slate. Obviously, the MOCs did not talk.

Now here is why I see your flaw. Our DSs close friend applied and was appointed to USMMA. However, he did not receive a nomination from either Senator. This is a state where it is seen as not a competitive state, but it must have been competitive enough that he did not make the Senators cut.

Again, anyone that has researched USMMA knows they can apply to every MOC. I would think that many will apply to all of the MoCs or as many as they can to increase their chances. I would think that the kid in Fairfax VA would apply to the Cong. that covers Blacksburg VA, while they opt not to spend time and apply to the congressman that cover Richmond and Norfolk, especially Norfolk since many kids want the sea option.

My son just returned from Boys' State. Before going, he was interested in pursuing a Navy ROTC-Marine Option Scholarship. He has now decided to do Army ROTC. He has been told that he has a better chance of actually using his Business Degree in the Army and a better chance of actually being awarded a scholarship. He is between his Junior and Senior year. He went online to apply and all we are seeing is an application to enlist. We will be looking at his choice of private and public colleges next week and will be ready to apply when we get back. What is he doing wrong that we don't see the college Army ROTC application on the goarmy website?

Under "Careers and Jobs" choose "ROTC". You will see a line of pictures across the middle of that page, choose "scholarships" . On that page you should find the links for creating a GOARMY account and it tells you what to do. Good luck!

Thanks! He created a go army account first and then tried to find the scholarship...I guess that doesn't work. Do you know if the go army account he already created will work? Or should he just create a new one from that link? Also he thought it should be completed before he goes on his college tours. Is that a good idea?

I don't really know about the goarmy account and the order, etc. My son went through this a few years ago, so I don't really remember.
He can start the application and get as much done as he can - you can keep submitting right up until the first board. Check the Clarkson University ROTC web page. Clarkson (screen name on here) has tons of helpful information on there, including dates of when things are due.
Our first college tour and talk with an ROTC unit was when my son was a Junior. He had not started the application process yet. In fact, I think our first tours everywhere were completed before the application. Since he was also applying to USMA and 4 colleges, we really pushed to get all applications done before his Senior year started. He also played a fall sport and participated in our marching band so I knew once school started he would have absolutely no time. (That was also another reason that we did college tours early in the process).

Thanks! That is where we are now. He is in between his Junior and Senior year in high school now. I took him to a state school during Spring vacation and we meet with a Navy ROTC person then. We will meet with the Army ROTC at each college we are visiting next week. He is competitive for the Army ROTC and Navy ROTC. He wants to go into business and is leading now towards Army instead of Navy-Marine option. My goal is to complete the process this summer as well. I will check out the Clarkson web page. Thanks!

Did you mean Tennessee or Texas when you say UT? Both of those schools have fast, D-I swim programs. Are they recruiting you? Don't worry about only doing one sport. If you are swimming at the national level (which you would have to be in order to swim for either of those schools), ROTC smiles upon that level of excellence. Make sure and include the national-level cuts you have (Futures, Juniors, Nationals, Trials...), meets attended, USA Swimming Academic All American, etc., on your application.

Sorry for the late response, but no haha. I do not swim at the national level. I swim around AAA times if that means anything to you.
