Where do I start?

Hello All! This is the first time I've posted on this board so I figure I'll introduce myself. I'm currently a junior in high school with a 3.8gpa and 4 leaderships positions in club as well as an athlete in several sports. I've always wanted to join the military, specifically USMA, but recently I've found myself more compelled to apply and go to CGA. From the academics to the extracurriculars to the service, this school has proved to be exceptional. With that being said, where do I start? I've read up on the school and their requirements as well as what's expected upon gradation. So... Where do I start?

Maybe visit campuses & do overnight visits? Great way to see & interact with cadets & MIDN. Also each district has SA day during early Spring.

My DD is a recruited athlete and has accepted her appointment for the class of 2021. We started with the normal college recruitment process and were able to tour the campus during a bears day event. She then applied and was accepted to AIM in the summer. AIM is not required but I highly recommend it. I believe that over half the appointees have attended aim but Objee can verify the statistics. You will also get the chance to knock out the PFE (physical fitness exam)!

Most apply to summer programs and other outreach programs the various academies put on. Visit the website and start preparing for the application process.

Alaskan is correct. As a Junior, it is too late to apply for AIM for this summer. I would continue with your research about the Academy and the various CG missions in order to decide if that is truly where you would like to go. Visit the Academy if you can, talk with current cadets, search out graduates, etc.

If there is a sport at which you excel, fill out the recruiting questionnaire (uscgasports.com/information/recruiting) and contact the coach.

You'll need to decide if you are going to apply early action or regular admissions. There is plenty of discussion on this forum regarding the merits of both. Use the search function to locate the related posts. However, a word of caution regarding this forum: while there is a lot of good information that can be found, you will also find uninformed opinions, so beware.

Make sure that you understand the application process at cga.edu and start assembling your application when admissions opens them for the class of 2022. Decide who you would like to have write letters of recommendation for you. Read the testing requirements and training suggestions for the PFE and start training for it. Hopefully you are already taking Honors or AP level math and science classes. Do whatever you need to do to maximize your SAT and ACT scores.

Good luck with your college searches and with your application, should you choose to apply to the Academy.

You start with the ACT/SAT. You need some good scores to go with everything else. Take the test now, and take it often.
