Where to contact Marine NROTC recruiter?

Hello all,

I am a 16 year old high school student aspiring to become a USMC officer. I’ve seen a lot of disagreeing on the internet between people about what Marine NROTC recruiters/admissions care about/look for. So I was thinking that one person who’d surely know is an actual Marine NROTC recruiter/admissions officer. I don’t mean to contact them to apply, although I plan on it in the future, but to receive some tips to better my application. I know that they’re job isn’t exactly to do that so I understand if I can’t do that anywhere, but I had to ask. Thanks!!

You need to find an officer selection officer (OSO) perhaps through your local recruiter. A regular recruiter might be able to help but they dont often know about NROTC. They will l also, on occasion, try to convince you to enlist Dont do that.

@Patches2010 - I don't recommend you chase down a Marine recruiter or OSO at this time. Recruiters are interested in finding great candidates for the enlisted ranks and OSO's are pretty busy getting Officer candidates into the pipeline. Everything you need can be found at the official USMC site here: https://www.marines.com/becoming-a-marine/officer.html

If you want insight into the Marine Officer selection process, this is a great resource written by a friend of @rocatlin:

This Forum has quite a bit of information on preparation, application, and physical fitness. I urge you to search widely and read everything.

There are quite a few Marine veterans and parents of Marines on this forum. We are always willing to answer direct questions.

Finally, I don't want to discourage you from seeking out information from Marines. I am sure there are veterans in your community. You could also try to connect with a local Reserve unit. Recruiting Offices will also be helpful but you could find yourself pressured to consider enlisting. The local OSO will most likely be hard to connect with.

Basically at your age it’s pretty easy...leadership, taking challenging classes and physical fitness.

Our boys all took the optional “NROTC” session during their college admissions tour of a college visit during their rising senior year (although rising junior year is also a good time, imo). During this session they had a nice presentation, met some unit members and got a ton of good information about the scholarship process (in fact, during DS#1’s visit is where I learned about this forum...from the Navy Sub guy!). IMO, this is a great way to get a peek into what it’s like and what it takes to become a member of a unit. They even have an overnight program where you spend the night with a NROTC member and shadow them. To get a feel. None of my boys did this piece.

I don’t see this talked about much on the forums, so maybe it’s not a common thing different unit’s do? But our local one does. And its schedule through the college admissions visit.

Interesting. DS's college didn't have such a session but did have a "recruiting" table amongst many other such tables (greek, environmentalist, churches, etc) at freshman orientation. Of course we stopped by. It was mostly manned by Midshipmen but I think the officers were there from time to time at least.

What college was this that did the overnight? DS signed up for one at VA Tech, but it's not one of the schools he will apply to. He just wants to go for the experience.
