Where to go - what to do - DS alone in Annapolis

I am in complete over-organizing mode! I have printed out a map of USNA, highlighted Gate 1/Drydock/auditorium - labeled each in numerical order w/time frames
- while fussing at him to download the Southwest Airlines and Super Shuttle apps
- while pulling up his flight and shuttle info on my phone, taking screenshots, and texting them to him
- while searching this forum for what he should wear/take/ask/see

And realizing that he will only be gone for a weekend - I am in awe of the parents on this forum who pull everything together to send their sons and daughters to service academies. I am glad DS is taking it all in stride - I am not!

I literally laughed out loud. You're obviously an awesome parent!

Annapolis sounds like a great town. Too bad USMA is in BF Nowhere. I think our son could have made a better choice. ;)

Applicants: If you are on the fence with multiple appointments, think about where you want to spend those four years--near crab cakes or in the backwoods. White shoes are a small price to pay if you have easy access to crab cakes. Just sayin'

Like most places I have lived, you don't really appreciate it until you leave. Annapolis is one of those place ...as a Midshipman , it felt like life in a fishbowl. It got better First Class year when we got cars and mobility. However, I love going back for reunions ... time, and availability of money make Annapolis a much better place.

USNA is situated on a scant 338 acres, Whereas USMA sits on a whopping 16,000 acres.
West Point may be in BFE, but man it's BIG! When you step out of The Yard - everyone knows it - because they can still see you.

If I can't see Ocean, I want to see mountains.
The country club in Colorado Springs is a pretty gorgeous campus.
Just sayin'

And.....he made it! Alone! He went from flight to super shuttle to USNA to DryDock for lunch. He texted that he “met some other guys who were waiting for CVW and they were hanging out, all walking around town with their backpacks and pillows”.
I’m kinda sad that he doesn’t need me, but I’m proud that he doesn’t need me. I think his phone died, because I’m currently unable to stalk his whereabouts through the “Find My Friends” app.

Greetings All,

I went on CVW this January and I want to say its a rewarding experience as a drag. I had the pleasure to be bunked in a room of of mentally diverse mids. I'd recommend he go to the Diner they suggest (Crab Omelette and Milkshake) and the Iron Rooster. But definitely he will be more immersed in the experience than Annapolis itself. 5am Personal Fitness was fun! And the food great, but I sure hope he got a well-meaning mid. I heard reports that a few mids were letting their drags roam free when I was there. But with the energy of the drags coupled with the busyness of the mids I can see how pawning them off was a stress reliever.

Much hope,
USNA Candidate
