We just bought a piece of Maine and will be spending half our retired year in AZ and the other half at a wooded lake. Goodbye AZ summer! Hello deer ticks, bear, rain, and humidity. Can't wait!
The Cotswolds in the UK...that'd be nice.Well I always liked quiet European life. I would probably prefer by the age of my retirement to buy property get residency in Europe probably in Greece. Cheap, warm, lots of places to visit and see and amazing fresh food.

My wife spent summers on Skiathos growing up and loved it there. There are certain places like Malta that are tax friendly and allow for dual citizenship (EU) if your real estate purchase meets certain thresholds.Well I always liked quiet European life. tired of hurricanes and tropical storms, Texas Hill country for meCheck out League City-south of Houston. Its 20 minutes from Galveston, Tx. Nice area. But that part of the Gulf is very humid ... rent for a year before you purchase. Beware of flood areas around Houston. Good luck,
Agree with that. I spent 25yrs in the Houston area...glad to move out and sell w/o having expiereced a flood. Still cant believe people live there and dont carry flood insurance.tired of hurricanes and tropical storms, Texas Hill country for me
My wife is from northeast Kansas. At one time I wanted to retire there but plans changed.Leavenworth, Kansas...
Heartland...just outside of Kansas City...blue collar town...land is cheap and so is the beer..
On my way!
I toured the Hook Norton Brewery in the Cotswolds. Old Hooky is my favorite Real Cask Ale. They still make some deliveries to local pubs with draft horses. The Cotswolds in the UK...that'd be nice.
Your beautiful photos prompted me to look at the area more closely. The area does look really nice. (Don't worry, I don't plan to move there, but looks like a cool place to visit!)Summer monsoon clouds build. Autumn 20 minutes from the house. 4 seasons, none last too long. Friendly people. Lots of retired military due to our base and those stationed here previously enjoyed it enough to return to retire. View attachment 8577

Reefer Central?Boulder CO could fit the bill.
That's awesome! Skiathos is the island directly across from my grandmother's summer home in Katigiorgis. We can see Skiathos from the beach near her home, Theotokos Beach. My wife spent summers on Skiathos growing up and loved it there. We live in Raleigh. Housing costs are getting way expensive here-probably smaller towns more affordable but then you sacrifice some healthcare access to specialists. There is an income tax which isn’t great for retirement. I would say, being originally a Portland/Seattle west coaster, that NC is more tolerant of conservative views. I like the moderate vibe here much more. That makes me sad. I have a buddy who is a big Panthers fan and he went to watch a home game and that was it. He is in love with that state. Says the people are the friendliest people you will ever meet. And, my son, who is a big NASCAR fan, would probably come and visit us.
