Where to stay for R day

Marchback is nice to watch, but understand that aside from seeing them marching in formation you will NOT see them. So unless you are close there is no point in going.

The Cromwell Manor Inn in Cornwall is a hidden gem less than 15 minutes away. It's a historic Inn with about 12 rooms. I highly recommend looking into it.

We have stayed in both. Newburgh is a bit closer and easier. But I did like Fishkill, too.

New to West Point and need guidance on best place to stay for R Day. Looking at Newburgh or Fishkill Marriott properties. Any advice appreciated.
We stayed at the Marriott in Newburgh. There were other new cadets there as well

We sent our DS to shadow right after Thanksgiving from the So Cal to have an overnight visit and shadow. He flew into LGA, got a ride to Thayer Hotel. He arrived around three, got up early and walked to the gate for his credentials. He said it was a good night stay, and the proximity was excellent. We are waiting for a nom to make reservations.

Both Woodbury and Newburgh are good choices. Stayed at the Hampton in both locations. Thayer over ADay was $450 a night, must be paid in advance, and books very quickly. By April of this year the 2027 Graduation weekend was full, and we were 70th on the waitlist. Its good to have an alternative.

We stayed in Fishkill for R day 2023. Not a bad drive and my CC was happy to have a little distance from post to calm his nerves a bit. For A Day we stayed in an Airbnb in Ft Montgomery. Very close which made picking up our Plebe convenient. Also, the kitchen was nice bc “in public” anything was super stressful so our DS was happy to get to avoid eating out (though we did venture out to Target).

Be aware that the “Goat Trail” (Bear Mountain Bridge Road) is single lane by Camp Smith, probably at least through June 2024. This can cause a major headache for anyone coming from the south on the east side of the Hudson.
