When do we find out which company the new Swabs will be placed in?

A letter will be sent in mid-June, approx 2 weeks before R-Day, with your company assignment and your reporting time.

FYI - You MAY be able to log-in to the web site a few days earlier than that and match up your Cadet Code to find you company, reporting time and your mailbox number, but Semper Gumby applies.

I don't want anyone to feel let down if they don't become a Bravo Bull.

??? Cadet Code???? Website??? cga.edu website? Confusion reigns supreme. Did I miss something?

If they do it like they did for 2012 last year (this year?) you will be assigned to a company for Swab Summer, then you will be assigned to a new company for AC year, then at the end of the 4/c year you will get assigned to yet another company, where you will remain until you graduate.

Relax. Deep breath IN. Hold it. Slowly release.

LAST YEAR - After you logged-in to your personalized account (which anyone can register for) on the cga.edu web site, you could check the "Downloads" section under your "Personalized Tools" and there was a list posted of every Cadet Code with the corresponding Company assignment, reporting time for R-Day, and mailbox address. It was posted around mid-June.

Luigi:

What is semper gumby?

Coast Guard motto is Semper Paratus, "Always Ready", it follows that "semper gumby" is "Always Flexible".

We "older" members unrealistically assume that everyone is familiar with Gumby.

How does the Academy select who goes into which Company? I think I read that they switch companies at some point, is this true? Is the training slightly different for each of the companies?

WE get a company for swab summer and then a new one for the 4/c year. and then a new one for the 3/c year that is our company for the remainder. About the training Im sure that Luigi or LITS could answer that.

swab summer training across companies should be identical. the only thing that matters with regards to what company you're in is who is actually in it with you and what your division duties will be during the year. For example, I was in Bravo last year and spring semester our division was the liaison between the computer helpdesk in Hamilton hall and the corps of cadets. as such, we were the point of contact for a lot of computer issues and whatnot. Long story short, it doesn't matter a whole lot.

While things have changed regarding Swab Summer companies over the past eight or so years, generally you will be in one company your 4/c year and then you will switch. Once you switch, you will be in the same company the rest of your time there (3/c, 2/c and 1/c years). THAT will be the company you identify with. Those will be the people you really develope some long lasting relationships with. I was in Charlie Co. my 4/c year and I was a Bravo Bull for my last three years.
