Looking at the Spyder Co. knives and don't know which one to get for my son who is looking to become an Engineer. He will not go to sea until July.

Tasman Salt

After some research I bought the Spyderco Tasman Salt for my Engine DS.
Best price is probably from Amazon.com $61.76 with free shipping.

My DS took the yellow Atlantic Salt out to sea - a bit more expensive he said it was the best knife he could have taken - in rough seas you can find it and it's blunt nose will not stab you if you slip or drop it; best of all he said it would absolutely cut through anything especially think rope.
