I have a question: What kind of civilian candidate gets into the prep school? Do you have any specific examples? What is it about some candidates that they are invited to attend the prep school?

Usually they are candidates who have demonstrated outstanding leadership credentials, but may be lacking in some academic areas, i.e not scholastically qualified (low SAT/ACT scores. low class rank, low GPA, no exposure to higher level math, etc)

Okay...truth time on the prep school.

The folks that get into the prep school are selected based upon the following criteria:

a. Enlisted members of the military with USAF a priority
b. Recruited athletes
c. Minority members
d. The rest of the candidate pool

That's it. The enlisted force typically has up to 50 slots +/-. After that the class is filled per the list above.

FYI...the academy also offers prep scholarships via the Falcon Foundation to other schools around the nation to highly qualified candidates. The AFA picks them and notifies them separately.

Your list is misleading as (b) recruited athletes or (c) minority members who meet the scholastic qualifications will probably get a full appointment rather than a prep school appointment.

I seriously doubt a recruited athlete or URM with a 1550 SAT (Math + Verbal) is going to Prep School.

I wonder if the admission director actually hears the words he says? My son did not get the appt. and won't get prep school. His GPA and tests are too high for prep school. 34 act 2060 sat.
