Hello. I am so happy to have found this forum while I wait with my DD. She has completed everything and has interviews for nominations next week.

I am wondering how accurate the calculators on the gainserviceacademy site are for WCS and CFA. I know that it is technically for West Point candidates but I would imagine it would be similar for all.

Thank you!

Doesn't matter how accurate the calculators are if she is doing her best in everything she can. Good luck!

Thank you, that is pretty obvious. 😂 I am still curious about the calculators though. I already know from previous posts that WCS isn’t an end all since a lot depends on the competitiveness of districts. Just curious! I know I am not the only one!

Again, I am so happy to find this forum, so much information.

Even if they are typically accurate this year is unlike any previous application year at USAFA. Again it sounds repetitive but the only people that know the answer to your question is the board who reviews the applications. Right now the only thing she should be worrying about is her nomination. She doesn’t need to even think about things like the number of applicants or how competitive this cycle is at this point.

If I was to answer your question I would say the CFA calculator is pretty accurate but the WCS calculator not so much. There aren’t a ton of options to really see a candidate on the WCS calculator and I’d suggest not trusting what that says.

Because of this thread I have now put my DS through both calculators. My takeaway is that they are interesting tools that might imply if a candidate in in the right ranges. They also appear to be a little optimistic. My final thought was there's no way to know how many other kids are in the exact same ranges so it all comes down to the kid's X factors and local competition

Here is a similar RAND report on USAFA. Interesting read. Rand Report - USAFA Admissions

Our DD is a new Doolie at USAFA this year. Good luck!
This looks like it has a lot of interesting stuff, and is pretty long and dense. Can you (or someone who's read the whole thing) summarize any major takeaways or changes that have been made to the selections process since then?

Specifically, what is (was) the "selections panel score"? Is that now a thing of the past, or are they referring to the ALO interview?

Where do you find the calculators. My DD just took the CFA.

I think that is meant for the academy to be more efficient in selecting candidates who have a high likelihood to succeed or at least get through USAFA. It isn’t really meant for candidate.

There is a calculator here for both CFA and WCS. I don’t know how reliable it is, there are so many other factors. Also, the CFA calculator gives more points for the bar hang than one pull up. One pull up is supposed to be better than max hang time.

Thank you this is great.
