Hello! I received an LOA around August 22, paper was dated August 19. It still has not shown up in my portal so I’m not sure if it ever will.
Also, does anyone know what needs to be uploaded via the upload docs tab? I understand the birth certificate but some stuff like the Legal Paperwork confuses me as I do not have any information on this.
Thanks!

Congratulations.. so my understanding is that you have all but ( maybe CFA, DoDmerb, Nom) completed. I am sure that you have outstanding credentials, any thing you can share.

CFA done and passed, DoDMERB exams completed and waiting on a decision.
4.4 GPA, 1470 SAT, 31 ACT, Student Council president, officer of many clubs, softball varsity letter (x3) with a captaincy, girls state, SLE, etc. Also almost completed application. Not a recruited athlete.

Great to hear that. I was under the impression that SA admissions wait till all the applications are in before making a decision. LOA is kind of decision only.. if I understand, they have MOC slates to be considered

I received an LOA on Monday. It doesn’t show up in the portal.

That's great, @gtboy7. So that was a letter in the mail? Any chance you could share your stats? I'm sure that's an annoying question and more experienced posters say don't worry about an LOA, but...anyway if you're amenable.

I finished the entire application in a week.

That's great! Best of luck to you assuming you accept.

My DD got her LOA in the mail in late August 2018. USMA gave her a 15 October deadline to submit her SOEs and essays or else the LOA would go away.

The LOA never showed up in the portal. Her LOE was in the portal.

I got an LOA 6 AUG of last year. Finished everything in October, and heard nothing until July 13th when I got the phone call.

Don’t expect an appointment for awhile but know that unless something contingent falls through you will be receiving one eventually.

Adding to this thread since it has most LOA sightings so far.
DD got LOA in the mail today! Postmarked 09/26/19, letter dated 09/24/19.
She was complete 09/03 except for Science teacher SOE uploaded 09/21.
USMA DoDmerb qualified 9/12, CFA and interview at SLE.
Conditional on "nom, phys qualification, and continued academic excellence"

I highly suggest signing up for Informed Delivery!

Our son got an LOA dated 9-13-19. It still doesnt show up in his portal. Contingent upon Dodmerb and Nom of course. He is going out there for a stay at the barracks in October. There is a link on his portal to select a date. It’s an overnite stay there too.

Is the letter inviting students for a visit a LOA? I am still learning and my son received a letter inviting him to schedule a visit and that he was a strong candidate. He wisked the letter away so I only saw it for a second. Is this a good sign?

@tryingmybest An LOA is a Letter of Assurance, it means "finish your packet, get your nomination and you will receive an appointment." It is not the invitation for a candidate visit.

Also, an LOA is NOT a necessary part of being accepted/receiving an appointment to West Point.

Hope that helps.

DD received an LOA a couple years ago, and was advised to mention it during her Nomination interviews. It is likely that the Nom source is aware of it, but not a guarantee. Better for them to say "Yes, we saw that, congratulations", then assume that they know. There may be some who will comment that a big deal should not be made of an LOA, but I disagree 100%. Finish your app, get 3Q'ed, keep your nose clean and grades up, and an LOA means that you WILL get an appointment. It's a great accomplishment, don't let anyone tell you different. Good luck!

Our poster also asked about the upload docs tab. I advised DD not to upload anything unless she is fully appointed and accepts, or is specifically requested to upload anything. And of course, it's still a long road to appointment, if anything happens, she may have to go a different direction, namely, rolling tide, bearing down, or ponying up (tbd).

I just looked on Informed Delivery (thanks @HCopter for the tip!) and my son has a letter from Admissions sitting in our mailbox since Saturday. He just received an LOE in his portal last week. Is it possible it is a paper copy of the LOE or is it most likely an LOA? Won't be home till late tonight to check but of course can find out then!

Do not count on an LOA. They are nice to have but increasingly rare and are not necessary.
