Will DoDMERB DQ a USMA candidate if they take medication?

Hi there,

As mentioned in the title, I was wondering if I will be DQ'ed for taking psychiatric medication. USMA mentioned that it's all case-by-case and can potentially be waivered with documentation, but in my specific case it's kind of tough to predict what would happen.

I did have a rough early childhood, but into my later teenage years I have been very stabile on my medications -- even when put into stressful situations. I'm also unsure how much of that is able to be waivered but I'd think reasonably all of it would since everything related to psychiatric care occurred before the age of 12.

Thank you.

DQs are NOT for medication.
DQs are for the underlying conditions that require medication.
USMA may consider waiving some mental health conditions, while Department of the Army is the waiver authority for others.
Waivers are on a case-by-case basis for applicants determined by Admissions to be competitive for an offer of appointment :wiggle:

Ohh ok. Do you know some of the common mental health conditions that are usually able to be waivered?

"Waivers are on a case-by-case basis for applicants determined by Admissions to be competitive for an offer of appointment"

That is the most accurate and precise answer I can provide. A glaring example would be as a comparison:

An applicant breaks their arm in Aug, the year before they enter West Point. They heal without complications. 99.9% chance of entering West Point.

An applicant breaks their arm getting off the bust at West Point on R-Day. They will not attend West Point that year. :wiggle:

Ah alright. Would it be possible to complete a DoDMERB exam early on to know how they would approach my specific conditions? I'm not sure how to even set up that process but I feel it would be better to know sooner rather than later.

Thank you for your response(s)

No.

West Point Admissions will "download" you to us when they feel you're a valid candidate AFTER you apply and complete a pre-candidate questionnaire :wiggle:
