Will Government Shutdown affect Army ROTC Selection Board Meetings?

I am a high school senior who submitted an Army ROTC scholarship application for the 2nd board. I have been reading articles about how on college campuses monthly stipends and training have been suspended until the government restarts. I was wondering whether anyone had any insight into whether this also means the selection boards wont meet and results will be delayed?

I agree with CitadelN88 -- links to articles please? The links I have found are from 2011, 2013 and 2018 . . . nothing from 2019

I don't see why anything associated with the DoD and ROTC would be affected by the partial government shutdown since DoD is not one of the 9 Agencies affected.

  • Department of the Treasury
  • Department of Agriculture
  • Homeland Security Department
  • Department of the Interior
  • Department of State
  • Department of Housing and Urban Development
  • Department of Transportation
  • Department of Commerce
  • Department of Justice
  • + NASA & IRS . . .

The shutdown of 2011 had a considerable effect on the ROTC Scholarship process for the second board, it drug on for what seemed forever. That shutdown effected a much larger portion of the government unlike this one where the DoD is still funded. You should not see any disruption in the process.

Now if you're talking about anything related to the Coast Guard, then you could see some issues. Since they are under the DHS, those that control this situation seemed to forget they are one of the 5 branches of the Armed Forces.

So glad you asked, I was wondering the same and was just coming on to post. Fingers crossed that this board goes on unaffected! Good luck!

WRT, to the stipend, my DS has gotten 2 payments since the shutdown. Heck, he even got his book allowance the other day.

As stated the DoD was given a dispensation. They all are getting paid and must show up to work, even if they are civilians. Contracted cadets would be paid because they are contracted.

Personally I suggest you ping Clarkson via pm on this site.

DOD budget is good...military is not effected by the “partial government shutdown”.
