WILL IT HELP OR HURT?

DS is 3Q'd; received NOM to USNA from MOC last month and is stalking the mailbox for the BFE. DS recently competed for and received full merit scholarship to The Citadel. [obviously USNA is first choice for DS]

My question is should he bring this to the attention of his BGO? Will this offer of 'full ride' to The Citadel have a positive or negative impact on Admission Committee's decision making process?

How do you know your son is 3Q'd? For that to happen your application should have been through the admission board already? And it won't help or hurt; they simply don't care.

It has no, none, zip, zero, nada bearing on the Admission Board. Thousands of kids that apply have all sorts of scholarships all over the country. Sounds like your son has a great plan B. It will be interesting if he reapplys and if he does AND is appointed, will he want to go through a second Plebe Year? One was enough for me.

And it won't help or hurt; they simply don't care. DSL and DDs are getting accepted to much more respectable colleges so it wouldn't matter.

And as a high school senior who is also applying to USNA, you know this as a fact....how?

BGO seems like a respectable source wouldn't you say????
HSClass15. Very disrespectful comment. I would not be making comments like tho soften. Not in your best interest to bite the hands that are feeding you information. Not classy.
I would guess Stealth is more knowledgeable about this process than you or I.
:hammer:

EEK...I guess he/she edited the original post. Good thing. They probably don't care, you are right; but that was the first openly hostile post I have seen on this board since I have joined.

An appointment to the USNA/other Service Academies is one of the most "respectable" opportunities available to an American Citizen. Period.

THANK YOU

It is true that being accepted to other colleges -- even with full rides -- generally isn't relevant to USNA. It is true that most applicants to SAs have other great options and some who have appointments end up taking one of those other options.

Thank you all for your candid thoughts and opinions. I appreciate your time and effort and will watch DS stalk the mailbox in hope of the prized BFE!

Totally agree with USNA1985. Not only does it have very little or no impact, I look at it is a way for the candidate or his/her parent's to try and force Admissions into a corner and that is a feeling you do not want to impose on the Admissions Office.
