Will My Mile Time Ruin My Chances For USAFA?

I just took my CFA and I'm pretty worried about my scores:

Basketball Throw: 84 ft.
Pull-Ups: 18
Shuttle Run: 8.6 sec.
Sit-Ups: 80
Push-Ups: 75
Mile: 8:09

I have never been much of a runner and this was my final time taking the exam. Needless to say, I'm a little worried about my mile time. I have already received a nomination and was told at the interview that simply based on my academics and extracurriculars they would be surprised if I did not get in. Will a mile time this low ruin my chances? I'm new to the forum and I'd appreciate any advice I can get. Thanks!

Not really, USAFA does look at your other scores too, so having one weakness won't prevent you from getting an appointment. Plus you maxed out on a few of them which is a good indicator that you will be physically able to make it at USFA. I have friends that have gotten appointments with lesser CFA scores, and as long as you lay sports you should be in good hands. Good luck!!

Ok phew, thank you very much!!!

The minimum is not published. It is certainly not a good score, but your others and other components of the wcs may make up for it. No one here can say for certain. I got in with some very sub-par pt scores--which didn't always make for a fun time as a cadet...

You DEFINITELY need to work on your running. That would not pass the AFT at the academy, which would put you on athletic probation...You don't want that!

I am with Raimius. USAFA does not publish mins. The CFA is a pass fail exam. If you fail one portion of the test than you fail the entire exam. It does not matter if you max any, the one you bust will give you 0 points on your WCS for the CFA.

Plus, if I recall correctly, doesn't USAFA tell you if you failed and ask for you to retake it? Two tries or something like that right?

DD had to retake for AFA, but not for the others so each academy is different. Her admissions counselor said they offer a retake if they feel your competitive for admission. Not sure how many chances you would get since she worked hard at her run time and killed it on second attempt.

If you fail the first CFA they will let you retake it one more time. The failure of the first CFA will be taken into account when your file is reviewed.
ruizhernandez3224, did you pass with the 8:09 mile or did you get a green check mark in your file? Thanks for sharing.

Does the green check signify you 'passed' or that you had simply completed/submitted the CFA score?

I'm not entirely sure. I'm assuming I passed since my application is listed as complete and the CFA box has a check in it.

I am not quite sure that it means they have passed. USAFA does not always offer retakes. As stated previously if they deem the candidate competitive they may request the candidate to retake the CFA.

Not trying to be a Debbie Downer, just saying we all know what the word assume means, and since USAFA does not ever publish the mins you should not assume that because they were not asked to retake it that they passed.

^+1 PIMA.

USAFA does not have to offer a retake, and many times, does not do so. It is in no way an "automatic" do-over.

Practice for the CFA as if you were taking the CFA, in order, timed. Practice the skills required, a lot, before hand, then practice practice practice. Timed. In order of "event."

See! Fencersmother wants you to pass.
