Will my SAT/ACT academically DQ me?

Hello all!
I have recently received a MOC nomination for the USMA. have to complete my last essay and CFA then my application will be done. I have taken and retaken my ACT/SAT and keep having trouble with the math sections. My GPA is around a 3.2(on 4.0). I am in the top 30% of my class and have taken all honors and an AP course along with several Dual credit college classes. My only worry is that my MOC told me that I have been labeled as "at risk" by west point, this is no doubt from my ACT/SAT scores. The scores are, SAT: Math 520 CR: 690 Writing: 640. ACT: English:30 Reading: 28 Math:22 Science:28. AS you can see the math scores are low. I have gone through tutoring and done many practice tests. My Comp SAT is a 1210 (out of 1600) and my Comp ACT is 27. Will these scores DQ me? Do I have no chance of being accepted into the USMA? and what are my chances of being offered a position at the USMAPS? I am also competing for an AROTC and NROTC scholarship. I have been accepted to Norwich university as well. Who should I talk to about getting further clarification? Please inbox me or post a reply. It is my true desire to become and Army Officer and serve my nation as an active duty officer. Thanks again.

How can your essays not be finished when appointments go out next week?

Do It Now!

Shakkori,

You need to complete your file by Thursday 2/28 or you will not get any consideration by USMA anything, including MAPS. So get that third essay finished NOW! Your test scores end up contributing about 30% to your overall WCS (50% of 60%) - so you have reasons to be concerned about your competitiveness. Admissions has to "qualify" your file, including determining that you are academically ready. If not, and they like you for other reasons, you might still get MAPS if they want you. This is especially true if you are a recruited candidate.

Thank you it is getting done today. Another thing is I've been trying for weeks to get a CFA file sent to my JROTC instructor. I keep re-sending it but it's not showing up in his email. Can I just use the CFA form I have the USMMA and send that one?

I don't know if the USMMA CFA is the same as the USMA CFA. I would make sure your JROTC officer checks his SPAM folder to make sure it is not getting rejected. If you have a CFA on file with USMMA, you can ask to have the results sent to USMA. If they can use it they will do so.

Whoa...

I have to tell ya, but you're way behind the power curve for Class of 2017. There maybe a possibility but slim. To get into USMAPS you have to be academically disqualified, but recognized as someone WP can benefit from. Your math score needs to be in the 700s to be noticed. Be honest with yourself and look at the Class of 2016 profile and study the SAT/ACT mean.

I have studied these averages, I have been told that I have a strong whole candidate score by my MOC. Just that my test scores are a bit low, are these a possible disqualifier?

SAT/ACT Requirements

U.S. Military Academy

SAT: Verbal 560
Math 560

ACT: English 23
Reading 24
Math 24
Science 23

This information was provided to my DS in an initial USMA packet.

At this point, you are not physically or academically qualified. Perhaps your leadership is stellar. Perhaps you are an under-represented minority. Perhaps you are in a district where very few apply...but you asked our opinions, and we've given them. From what I've seen (on this page 5 years), you are behind in getting this finished. If you cannot get the form to your JROTC instructor, he should be calling WP for directions on submitting it. Time is of the essence. The first round of appointments go out next week, and there's no way you can be considered for that at this late juncture. Get a move on.

Army Aviators Moms--because astronaut moms need someone to look up to.

I wish you luck.

Regardless of the outcome of your application there are a number of cadets and midshipmen that would envy your numbers.

And I know you are worried, but it says something about you that you would be here on this forum typing questions and responses when your packet is not complete.

There can be mitigating circumstances, but the drive and desire to make your dream a reality should take precedence over everything else. If I get that feeling, maybe the USMA does too.

If it is your dream, do everything you can to make it happen! Waiting this long to complete your requirements does not show good planning, organization, or desire. Realizing it may not all be under your control, I hope you get everything finished and nail that appointment!

Are these entry level threshold values or something else?

CFA

Can I just use the CFA form I have the USMMA and send that one?
Contact your RC or FFR to see if results are transferable from USMMA to USMA.
DS had his CFA results transferred from USNA to USMA. He contacted the RC and asked if his results from USNA would be okay to use and RC had admin team contact USNA admin for the transfer of scores. This took a couple of weeks to finalize and this was back in the summer when things weren't so busy. I believe the quickest way now is to take the CFA with your hs PE teacher grading and he/she sending in results through the link sent. Hurry up!!

Hey CS

You didn't mention if you got a nomination, do you have one?

He says in his original post that he has a nomination. He also said that his MOC says West Point considers him "at risk." Later he said his MOC said he had a strong WCS.

Agree with mom3boys:

My bad

Just re read that. If he can complete his file and has a strong WCS, he may be considered for USMAPS due to his math.

The form you need is in included in the CFA instructions which is shown on your portal.

My 3 Sons,

Thank you for the response. Although those may be minimum requirements, hard to beleive that many candidates would get accepted directly into the Academy with those scores. For example if the mean in math is a 29, there would need to be 2 candidates who need to achieve an ACT score of 32 to offset the 24 score. I am sure a few have been accepted with those scores, the question which none of us can answer is "How successful were they at USMA and did they graduate"?

The advice my DD received from the RC was to hit a 30 overall, 30 in Math would make her a very competitive candidate. The AFA ALO told us that they do not start to look at a candidate with scores in each section of less than 25. I guess we will find out next week.
