Will USNA have a wave of appointments or just trickles?

Just wondering if USNA will have a wave of appointments that go out or will it continue to trickle?
Hahaha! I see what you did there!!! Of course they'll have a "WAVE"! :D
They'll usually have successive waves in late Jan, another in mid-late Feb, and another in March. There will be more appointments in April and perhaps a couple in May. At least that's how it appeared to work in the past.

USMA just sent out a wave of 500 offers of appointment, so I would hope that USNA would follow suit fairly soon...

USMA's process is very different (yet similar) from USNA, so be careful drawing conclusions like this. As the Admissions Board works through lists/slates from congress, they will send out appointments. There are times when its much more active and seem like "waves" are coming out. And there are times when its excruciatingly slow and you'll wonder if they are ever going to release appointments! Be patient and understand that you will know something by mid-May...

The Class of 2020 Appointment thread had 128 reports. Of those 119 had dates. I used LOA date as the appointment date, and base on that data, here is the distribution of when LOA/Appointments were made.

Date -- # - - %
Sep - - 5 - - 4%
Oct - - 6 - - 5%
Nov - - 2 - - 2%
Dec - - 19 - - 16%
Jan - - 31 - - 26%
Feb - - 36 - - 30%
Mar - - 17 - - 14%
Apr - - 2 - - 2%
May - - 1 - - 1%

Late January to early February is when the bulk of the appointments will come out. No big slug of appointments, at least last year.

I agree, you can't make assumptions about USNA based on what another SA does. USMA's website says they no longer have rolling admissions, but I guess it must depend on how they define that. USNA no longer tells applicants if they are 3Q, so there is another variable to consider when talking about getting an appointment.

I wonder if the timeline may shift a little to the left in certain districts if the MoC does not get reelected during an election year, when the staff need to wrap up their work before the next team comes in.

@5Day, thank you for sorting out the numbers. I see a great opportunity for you to draft that After Action Report for the USNA forum members at large at the end of this cycle! :D

So panic if it's March 1 and you don't have an appointment, roger that! Still hoping for the best.
