    Good evening everyone.
A Midshipmen Candidate from the same district that I reside in was recruited by Navy for football and recently accepted his offer. Does this mean that he won the congressional slate and that I will be placed on the NWL?

Thank you all for your help.

I am in a somewhat similar situation. There's a girl from my district that (I assume) was recruited for a sport and was contacted by the congressman about her offer. She accepted and I'm not sure if this lowers my chances significantly.

There are 100s of threads about athletes but basically you would have to know how they were recruited and how there slot will be charged. Each team at each academy have "silver bullets/bluechips/etc" that they can use to get an appointment. These are few and far between and used for highly recruited athletes. If someone in your district receives one of these, then they will not affect your admission chances. If a "recruited" athlete is competing on the same slate as you and wins that slate, then you will have a more difficult path to admission.

Given that my fellow candidate signed his letter of intent in January, is it likely that he was offered a "blue chip?"

    Your answers are greatly appreciated.

Impossible to tell for sure, but probably not. With the caveat that USNA may operate differently than USMA - USMA recruited athletes will generally not win the slate. They will be selected from the NWL in the category of those who may be selected without regard to order of merit.

The reason is that it is too inflammatory politically - bad press for the MOC and the academy. It creates a perception of using taxpayer money to field athletic teams at the expense of more qualified candidates. There are, of course, exceptions depending on the qualifications of the athlete and other candidates, number of qualified candidates in a district, etc.

Will a blue chip athlete gain an appointment anyvearlier than non-athletes?

There is no such thing as signing a National Letter of Intent for a SA. Yes some can 'gain' entry earlier, if they completed their app. With recruited athletes in the news saying they 'signed with USNA' in their junior year or summer of their senior year it's really not the truth. They still have to be 3Q. In these situations coaches are willing to use one of the extremely rare blue chips they have (essentially a Supt's Nom). These candidates haven't finished their application yet, but the coaches know their stats are above the line for acceptance. But I have seen athletes not get physically qualified in some of these situations and not go to USNA.

They could be charged to the MOC, come from the NWL, Supts Nom or any other Nom they qualify for. A recruited athlete could have amazing stats along with an athletic resume that is impressive. None of us can tell you who they will be charged to. I have seen blue chip recruited athlete resumes that would blow your mind and that is without their athletic achievements. Multiple candidates get appointed from the same district all the time. You can't control this, just do your best.
