Wisconsin 2014 Appointments

My name is Luke, I live in Waukesha county, and I received an appointment to both the Naval and the Air Force Academy. After a lot of thought, I chose the Naval Academy, and I am so pumped to be able to go there. How about you?

I am from Kenosha and recieved an appointment. My nomination was from Congressman Ryan of the 1st district.

My son also is from WI and got AF and Navy appointments. He accepted Air Force and declined Navy's back in January! Luke - I was just thinking about you and wondering how CVW went for you! My son had a great time there, but wasn't on the plane back home before he was asking if he could NOW accept the AF appointment, so I guess his mind was made up! He knows another person from the local area with an appointment to AF as well. (Both district 8 - Kagen)

2014 Appointments

For those of you that did receive appts....When? and How?
My daughter is still waiting.....

Marciemi, I had an amazing time. I enjoyed every aspect of the Academy and it really helped me make up my mind. Just to be sure I waited a couple weeks to accept the appointment, but now that I have, I am so confident and unbelievably excited about my choice. I'm glad your son was able to make up his mind too!

June4th- I received my appointments back in December, and I was fortunate to receive LOAs to both institutions early in the fall. I received nominations from Congressman Sensenbrenner and Senator Feingold.

Hi Orwell, I am assuming that you recieved Congressman Sensenbrenner's primary nomination. I have one of the two competitive alternate nominations to USNA that he awarded this year (according to his press release), as well as one from Senator Kohl. I have not recieved an appointment, however.

I try not to worry about it too much, but I wonder a lot about my chances of getting an appointment at this point. Do you have any insights as to about what the odds are at this point for somebody who is 3q'd with two nominations to get an appointment? Any advice for somebody who is still waiting to hear?

Hi Rascal,

Congrats! For a Wisconsinite, you are in a VERY competitive district. Best wishes as you embark on your military service.

Hi Rascal,

Congrats! For a Wisconsinite, you are in a VERY competitive district. Best wishes as you embark on your military service.

Thanks! I didn't realize my district was one of the more competitive ones!

Last year there were over 70 applicants for Paul Ryan's district! A friend of mine once sat in on the interviewing commitee. He was a USAFA grad...then a pilot for Midwest...just went back to USAF at age 56, due to losing his job at Midwest! We attended the Air Force/Navy football game with our sons last fall. He was stunned by the beauty of USNA! Must've said, "I can't believe how beautiful this place is" over 20 times during the weekend.

There are likely scores of young people who wish they could be going where you are going to college. Humbly accept the challenge and don't you quit! Soon you will be living the dream...but that won't happen during Plebe Summer.

My advice to you, ask your parents to start yelling at you for every little thing. It will toughen you up a little.

StudentInWisconsin- I'm pretty sure I didn't get his principle nomination, because I already had an LOA, and if you have an LOA and you're just on the congressman's slate, than you're automatically in, so generally they wouldn't waste a principle nomination on you.

I'm not sure about your chances, if you have two nominations I assume they are pretty decent, but I don't know a lot about that. Just don't give up hope, from what I've heard a majority of the appointments have not been given out yet. Good luck!

Orwell,

I was just assuming you were the primary nominee because Sensenbrenner's press release named all the alternate noms but not the primary ones for all the service academies and when I spoke with the other alternate nominee for USNA a couple of weeks ago he was still waiting to hear.

In any case, congratulations and thanks for the encouragement! Hopefully I may see you at USNA come I-day.

DS received competitive nomination from Sensenbrenner for USMA and USAFA; and USMA nom from Kohl. He received a USMA appointment in December (LOA in hand) and USAFA appointment in February. He's heading to New York and will respectfully decline the USAFA seat.
