Wisdom Teeth

Yep I was wondering about the running advice as well. The most important thing is not to do anything to dislodge the clots, this includes running and drinking through a straw. One does not want to suffer from a dry socket.
My own daughter was not allowed to run for a week. Even then her jaw still hurt. Good luck to you BR - listen to your body! If it hurts then stop!

well maybe i misunderstood, i just remember him saying something about getting out and exercising to speed up healing. ill be sure to find out on friday.

Yep, BR when you have your surgery your surgeon will give you explicit instructions. You might want to ask him if you should curtail your 5-7 mile daily runs for a few days! No doubt getting up and moving around will not only help you heal faster but you will feel better.
Listen to your body, if you go running and your jaw hurts really bad - then stop!

I just found the picture my parents took (God bless 'em) after I had my wisdom teeth out. Ugh! What a chipmunk!

From what I remember, just take it easy for a few days. Running will be there.

"Much better to have them out while at home so mom can baby him a little bit one last time. :shake:"

Agreed! Our candidate had his foursome removed on Monday. Depending on the dental practice in our area, some use the prednisone therepy, ours didn't. Either way, the secret is in the icing. While we have many different sizes and styles of re-freezable cold packs (athlelete thing) we found that bags of frozen peas and a 4" ace bandage worked the best. The cold reduces the swelling and also the pain. The photos of the gerbil in his frozen peas are priceless!

Three of the teeth were impacted and would have had to have been removed at some point anyway. I had mine removed by a NUB jg(MC) in Groton many (Many!) moons ago and still have the scar accross the roof of my mouth to prove it. We felt it better to get them done now so that Moms could be around to do that maternal thing they do so well.

Coming out of the "Twilight Sleep" can also prove to be very humorous!

As far as the athletic thing, he's planning on going to the gym today to resume his weight lifting program and do his speed and agility training tomorrow. However, it's nearly 1000 hrs and he's still in bed. I think he'll reconsider his original plans until the swelling and discomfort have ebbed a little more. He does recover quickly though. Had a inguinal hernia repaired just before Christmas and was back to routine by 6 Jan.

Just a side note: Hey Doc, the DoDMERB system does work albeit very slowly. The hernia was a D-Qual but the rebuttal process after the repair worked just fine. He achieved his Qual status by the end of January thereby making him a 3-Q with nomination.

Yup. Pretty good stuff. Especially when I heard that my neighbor had a new pink lawn mower & he insisted that they only took two of his teeth instead of four.
He wouldn't believe me when I told him otherwise. Especially about the mower.

Glad to hear it! Sorry about DoDMERB being slow, ever since I left they went downhill (of course isn't that how it always is? :shake: )

:yllol: My son's best friend was tasting colors (coming out of anesthesia). Green tasted best with blue a close 2nd. Can't wait to see what the boy does.

I think all the wisdom teeth questions have been answered here. I'm going to lock this thread, but please, feel free to move this interesting conversation over to the off topic forum!! :thumb:
