Can you tell me if it’s okay to take pain medication (like Vicodin) after the surgery if needed or is this something to try to avoid that can result in a DQ? Doctor prescribes always, said to take as needed or If requested we can wait and see if needed and get the prescription later if that’s the case.

Also, can you tell me exactly what my child will need to send you after the surgery from the doctor when emailing you? Can you attach things like reports in the email when doing so?
Thank you!

This, as well as the pain medication will be extremely helpful in managing the pain. Then again every case was different, but I was prescribed a narcotic just in case the combo of Tylenol and Ibuprofen wasn't enough.

That’s what their normal protocol is too, just incase, I just wanted to make sure it’s ok to go with that plan. They only suggest ibuprofen though, not the Tylenol. Thanks.

My son had his out last year and only needed ibuprofen - was swollen for a few days and eating solid foods in 2. He only had the upper ones removed. Both he and the teenage girl who had the same procedure before him were totally wiped right after. Apparently the pain meds during the procedure was pretty strong- he didn't remember the 15 minute drive home or getting sick in car (stomach bile). I only say this because you may want to be have a bag ready in the car and if you have stairs like we do, prepare to assist. He slept for a couple of hours afterwards and we followed the pain management procedures- trying to stay ahead of pain. I don't think he took anything past day 4.

Another example of it depends on the person. I was told mine were completely impacted and due to the fact I have a small jaw (typical for a female) they needed to cut through muscle to get to the bottom teeth. I had a couple sleepless nights, as I remember describing that I felt two heartbeats. One in my chest and the other in my jaw.

That sounds like it was ruff. His aren’t impacted, thank goodness.

My son's weren't impacted either- I was told that his roots were less likely to have taken hold because of his age. I wish you the best but definitely agree that it depends on the person. Also, as smoothly as it went, I didn't envision needing to help my nearly 6ft 160 lb kid up the stairs or him getting an upset stomach in the car. I also didn't have the right foods on hand. I went out and bought ice cream, Lipton's soup, applesauce, pudding, small pasta (great with butter) because surprisingly his appetite was good by the evening. A friend of mine used cold packs but my son didn't use- Just some other considerations.

Thank you for the info! My kid is the same height & 158. Thankfully they told me the have a special, close parking spot and it’s in the first floor. I will bring a bag for the car just incase.
