NYT article on Panetta's first visit as Secretary of Defense to Iraq and Afghanistan.

I know it's serious business, but some of the quotes made me laugh. A very different personal style from Gates.

“This damn country has a hell of a lot of resources,” Mr. Panetta boomed on Monday to American troops at Camp Victory in Baghdad, during 28 minutes of remarks that included, if you were counting, 16 cheerful “damns” and “hells” and one unprintable description of Osama bin Laden.

Well there aren't many soldiers that will be shocked at "salty" language. I wish Mr Panetta well- it's not going to be a fun job trying to do right by the DoD and military personnel ,prosecute a war and deal with the reality of declining defense budgets.

Oh, trust me, I know the soldiers won't be shocked by a few four-letter words! It's just an interesting (180-degree) change in style from Mr. Panetta's predecessor.

I, too, wish him well - he is shouldering a huge responsibility with many challenges and so much at stake.

Oh, Trust me....Mr. Gates had a very diverse vocabulary. :shake:
The difference being he did not display it in public. There is a lot to be said for that. :thumb:

Ha ha! I knew I liked that guy!
