I just heard on good authority that USMMA is admitting a larger than usual class for 2022--over 300, including over 70 women. The reasoning is because the school is going to be cracking down on overweight mids. Word is that if you show up for Indoc outside of height-weight standards and cannot pass the tape test, then you are at risk of being sent home.

They have a growing number of current mids who are over standards. At least 2 upperclassmen have been disenrolled lately for this issue, even though they have been given multiple opportunities for remediation.

There are many ways to be disenrolled from KP that are out of your control. The academics are very tough for most people. One thing you do have control over is meeting the height-weight standards when you report. It would be very unfortunate to test this new policy and be disenrolled before you even get started, especially with so many great candidates being denied admission. If you are over the limit or pushing the limit, take action now, and you will have one less thing to worry about. Good luck to all.

Uh...no. They are admitting a big class because they want to increase the size of the school, and can now do so due to being finished with certain capital improvements. Not because they want to reduce the number of overweight midshipmen. Also, in my opinion its easier to study for exams and pass them than to lose weight. The mids that struggled with their weight have my utmost respect.

"USMMA is admitting a larger than usual class " "a growing number of current mids" "They are admitting a big class"

I couldn't resist. Larger young people are common today. They are big and growing by the minute. I see it in my high school. I have students who seem to be eating something all day. The services are having trouble finding qualified enlistees due to weight and poor fitness and it should be no surprise that academy and other officer accession sources are as well. I was physical fitness coordinator at two different commands and being tape measure challenged shows no prejudice. Officers, enlisted, and especially my fellow CPOs should heed Ben Franklin's advice "Live long, eat less."

    Body Composition Assessment
"Body composition is assessed by weight and height screening. . .
On entrance day, Plebe Candidates will be weighed and those Plebe Candidates that exceed the weight for their height, as outlined below in the Weight Height Table, will have their body fat measured by tape measurement. Those that fail to meet the Academy body fat standards of 22% for males and 33% for females may be denied admission."

    Physical Readiness Program (Attached Below)
Start working out NOW to prepare you for the rigorous physical demands of Plebe Indoctrination. It is recommended that you follow the seven week exercise routine.

During Plebe Indoctrination you will take two physical fitness tests.
The first fitness test, Initial Strength Test (IST), will be conducted on the second day and consists of maximum curl-ups in two minutes, maximum push-ups in two minutes and a timed 1.5 mile run.
The second fitness test near the end of the two weeks, the Final Strength Test (FST), includes maximum push-ups in two minutes, maximum curl-ups in two minutes and a timed 1.5 mile run.

I dont think they eat more than before. They just dont go out. Before I learned to drive, we would get on our bikes and ride from morning until it was dinner. That doesnt happen anymore.

    Thanks for program, cousmma5280.
I have a question about curl-ups. In the log book I got, curl-ups was explained without partner but in your attachment, it was done with partner.
I tried both ways and reached at two different number (about double with partner).
Anybody have an idea how it is really done during the Indoc or in school?
    Thanks in advance!

They are completed with a partner holding your feet.
