Worst case scenario-When would we be notified?

I wish I was one of those folks who could be content and patient with the waiting part knowing that my DD did a great job with her application. However, I know myself well enough to know I will be on pins and needles until word comes one way or the other. I have read several threads here and have determined that some candidates are notified when their file is 3Q'd and others are not. If, for some reason, my daughter is not 3Q'd when would she be notified? After February 28? Before? I think I am going to hear "It depends" but I would rather ask than just wonder. Thanks.

April 15th is the worst case scenario.

thanks for the info. I would hate to wait until then to find out she was not even 3Q'd.

Listen, my guy (#3) got in and he did not hear until very late April last year. Same for @onepercenter2021 's daughter. It can be a really long slog. I completely lost faith as April moved on but not my #3, the Force is strong with that one.
However, he never heard anything for months and months. Not from the FFR, not from his RC. It was radio silence for a long time and then, magic. (Then, after the BFE arrived he was still thinking about his options--which school, which service academy; he received a TWE from USMA in the mail--my heart stopped--but it was just 'hurry up and make a decision.')
So, it is February, you could be waiting until 1 May.

Did he not even know if his application was qualified? My main concern would be having a non qualifying application but not hearing anything at all until April.

I cannot remember but I remember it all feeling pretty hopeless for the lack of correspondence--especially when other people were getting BFEs every week--it seemed that the class had been built and they had simply not rejected him yet (I never said anything--he had other plans that were NOT back up plans--all Plan A's--actually his USMA appointment would be considered a back up school to USAFA--to many). Some applicants never get a 3Q letter, you could encourage your child to ask.

Thanks for the feedback, folks. Just posting and seeing your responses has helped me to chill out. I decided to text DD and ask her if she wanted to go do something fun this weekend (indoors since it is supposed to be cold and raining). She wants to go to a working glass blowing studio up in Louisville and watch folks create art. We have never done anything like that before and we will have two hours in the car each way to chat. Sounds a lot more fun than worrying over whether or not the portal has been updated.

This is the first step of waiting. After a BFE, there is the waiting for the documents needed to be filled out etc. Then the big wait to see if there is an injury before Beast. Then waiting on precious phone calls from your sweetie and running to the mailbox to check for mail. I could tell you the last pick up times for mailboxes in our rural area. The list goes on!

Your weekend plans are perfect! Enjoy your daughter and spend as much time as you can with her. I miss my sweetie everyday. :wiggle:

The FFR can also tell you if you are 3Q.

USNA commits to letting candidates know their status by April 15, USMA does not. If you are 3Q + Nom you are still in the running until you get a TWE.

She is our last one at home. My wife and I have already discussed how much we will love having time to ourselves and how much we are going to miss having at least one kid around. If she ends up at WP, she will be closer to her brother and sister who live in Portland, ME than to us. Our 3rd child will be the only one living close to us.

I’m struggling with the same thing as our youngest DS waits. He’s got good backup options but it’s really hard to keep up these dual paths and the necessary enthusiasm for both. Some days he seems to be leaning heavily towards Purdue and then others—-like tonight, he starts talking about IU. He’s going to do overnight visits with ROTC at both. He’s applied for a manager position at the pool where he lifeguards—-but he’ll only be here for a month if he gets in to WP. I work in a school and if he’s staying in Indiana then I want to pick up a summer job, but if he’s leaving in the middle of June, not so much. Everything is in limbo He asked yesterday if we’re doing anything for spring break and I honestly hadn’t even given it a thought because with everything so up in the air we also don’t really know what sort of expenses we’ll be facing. I decided today that we definitely need to do something fun on break, even if it’s just a road trip to Louisville to see my oldest DS, because this year has been crazy stressful and he’s perpetually sleep deprived too. Obviously we’ll miss him so much but we too are looking forward to some calm. We just had the swim team here so the boys could shave their heads before sectionals. You know how you’re tired at the end of the week and just want to relax and maybe get a nice dinner? Howabout instead of that you have 20 kids shaving their heads and eating pizza in your living room?! It’s so fun, but we’re exhausted!

Hoosiermom18, it sounds like we have some similar things going on. Several years ago we had planned to take a family vacation at the beach sometime this summer figuring that with the youngest graduating we could take a break before she headed off to college. But DD's eventual destination has everything on hold. If it is WP, then we need to go early in June. If it is not WP, then it is potentially more flexible. But, she is also considering joining the National Guard if she does not get in and then going regular Army after she graduates (She is also pursuing ROTC). If she goes NG, then she wants me to sign on the dotted line so she can enlist before she turns 18 and go to basic this summer and get back in time for school b or school c to start.

I guess I just realized how much is waiting on this WP notification.

DS has started a second job to pay for his remains flight lessons come spring. He has also developed an interest in financial markets and opened a mutual fund and a 401k account to invest money for future :)
He has been accepted to all 8 colleges he has applied and he is now waiting to hear from USAFA. He seems to be quite relaxed as his plan B is solid. He is our first kid going to college so it’s little stressful for us but this forum has been so helpful.
We are planning to visit Purdue and IU, Urbana, in two weeks and we are going to stay two nights in Chicago downtown, kind of mini vacation:)

I recommend talking to an ROO before enlisting in the guard especially if she plans on doing ROTC at the same time. Doing Guard and ROTC can get complicated. @clarksonarmy and @MohawkArmyROTC are ROOs who hang out here. You might try the ROO in the ROTC unit at the schools she hopes to attend.

Thanks for the response. I don't think she plans to do both. At this point, she is keeping her options open. She is in JROTC and has spoken to a lot of different folks about her options. Though she has not mentioned it in a while, enlisting out of high school was also on her list. The one thing that has been consistent is her desire to serve in the Army.

Definitely email your RC and ask if you're 3Q'd.
It can be a long roller coaster ride until you know for sure. DS heard nothing until a rejection email appeared in his portal on 4-12 last year. He received a TWE on 4-15. On 4-17 he accepted his ROTC scholarship and sent in a housing deposit to his second choice, and on 4-18 I got a call from his high school principal telling me DS was in his office being offered an appointment to USMA. I have a picture of him holding both his TWE and BFE.
In his case he was second on his congressional slate. I'm guessing number one changed his mind after accepting. It's rare, but I can attest to the fact that it happens.

Oh geez!!!! Is this process designed to teach people like me that you can’t plan or predict anything?!
