I currently work as a consultant at a marketing firm and after looking at the summer seminar personal statement, I was wondering if my job falls under "any activities, groups, conferences" that are "STEM-related [science, technology, engineering, math], leadership, etc".

Furthermore, a good percent of my extracurriculars are Japanese culture/language-related, would those EC's fall under the "etc." in the prompt?

Any advice would be appreciated as I don't want to write unnecessary/uncalled-for information in the personal statement.

Thanks for reading!

You don’t get a 2nd chance to make paint the picture of who you are. To me, both of those do that. If nothing else, I see you consulting as ‘leading’...bc you are advising others as to what to do (?). And ‘etc’ is a big ‘ole bowl of whatever it is.

Perhaps you can make the connection between what you do, and the prompt. Imo, painting the picture that you want them to see is the main point. They won’t toss your app bc you include an activity. Beyond that, you do have to edit down into the allowable character count, so choosing what to include is also important.

Remeber: NASS invitations dont go out to the most qualified applicant. There are other criteria involved in a NASS selection, than there are for an appointment offer. There are also significantly less spots available than a full class. So if you do not receive an invitation, do not be discouraged.

justoit19, is right. Very likely your "consulting" is a type of leadership. Leadership can be given up, down, and to peers. It's definitely worth listing.
