Would Trigonometry be better then algebra2 for a rising junior

For context, I was an idiot in my freshman year, before I decided I wanted to go into an academy, and I flunked algebra 1. For my sophomore year I did a mixed algebra/geometry class that I aced. So anyways I put in for geometry and trigonometry for my junior year, but I found out I got algebra2 instead. So would algebra2 be better than trigonometry for the academy?

Usual sequence that I am aware of is Algebra/Geometry/Algebra II/Trig. & Analyt./Pre-Calc./Calc. I am pretty sure you need to have a solid foundation in Algebra for Trig/Analyt. I would be surprised if Algebra II was not a prerequisite for the class.

Alg2/Trig can be taught in the same year … Trig is taught again in Precalculus as well.

I remember daughter taking:

7th grade Algebra 1
8th grade Geometry
9th grade Algebra 2 / Trigonometry
10 grade Precalculus with Trig again
11 grade Calculus
12 grade Statistics

Wow, I wish our schools offered that. DS had 9th grade Alg 1., 10th Alg. 2 and geometry, 11th Precal and 12th Cal (11th and 12th done via dual credit). Rural schools just don't offer high level courses early enough. Sad.

Growing up in Annapolis, the track I took with the rest of the Honors/GT kids was Algebra in 7th, Geometry in 8th, Algebra II in 9th, and Trig/Analyt in 10th. Then any mix of Pre-Calc, Calc, Prob. & Stat, etc. from 11th - 12th. My two older kids (including current Plebe) were on a similar track in their schools (in Howard County, MD). It is always interesting to see there is such a disparity across the various places, and that is one of the reasons the Academy looks at not just grades and courses, but locations where people are doing their work. Not everyone has access to the same level of schooling.

Alg 2 is a better option. Trig is lumped in with other Math courses at a lot of schools.

My son took Algebra 1 and Geometry prior to hs, then Algebra 2 as a Freshman, Pre-Calc as a Sophomore, Calc as a Junior and now Stats as a Senior...he didn't take Trig as a separate class as it was part of Algebra 2...
