Wrong Nomination

Quick question, my DD applied for a nomination from her district MOC. She was asked to choose which Service Academies she was seeking a nomination for and to rank her preference. Since she was only applying to two academies, she ranked them as 1 and 2. Today she received a letter from the MOC stating that she received a nomination, however, it was for a service academy not on her list and that she isn't applying to. Has this ever happened to anyone else on the forum or is it possible that they made a mistake and confused two different candidates. She is not sure how to address this issue so just looking for some guidance.

The year our son applied, one senator awarded him the principal nomination to USMMA to which he hadn't applied or mentioned. Guess not many from our state applied to USMMA. He simply declined it.

Could it be that she received her first and/or second choice from a yet to be announced mom source?? So has she been notified from all her sources?

Justdoit, that is the strange thing. She interviewed with both Senators prior to her Representative and she has not heard back from either Senator yet. I was thinking that maybe they know something that she doesn't know in regards to other nomination sources since we are in a "share the wealth" state. For her sake, I am hoping that is the case.

She could always call the NOM and clarify if some mistake was made. Giving a NOM to an SA she didn't apply to wouldn't be useful to her or the MOC.

Don't read too much into it... could be simply be that DD didn't make that MOC top 10 for the academies she was applying for, and didn't have enough applicants for MMA, so he /she thought they were doing DD a favor. Remember,. the MOC is looking for persons eager to serve, not necessarily favoring a particular service academy.

What was the result? Same thing happened to my grandson. He applied only to USNA and USAFA, partly because he didn't realize the USMA required the writing portion of the ACT until he looked at their admissions page after having completed the other two applications.

We called USMA today and their application deadline is February 28 with no ACT test dates scheduled until February 9. With the two week delay in reporting scores, we doubt he could make the 28th deadline.

He received a LOA from USAFA, was our senior Senator's principal nominee to to that academy and also received an alternate nomination to USNA. Today, he received a nomination to USMA from our junior Senator.

What was the end result of your communication with your MOC and what state are you in?

MOC service academy liaison has not responded yet, possibly due to holiday time off. My DD looks at this like a blessing in disguise. She has started the application to the service academy she was nominated for and is going to complete it and see what happens. Although she has preferences to which academy she would like to attend, she really just wants to serve as an officer. I haven't heard of any of the Senatorial nominations being released yet in Maryland so there may still be a chance that she gets a nomination to her first or second choice.

Makes sense, the nom is the hard part, the application is easier to complete...I guess the MOC knows what's right-lol
