Seeing all the new applicant posts and questions brings home it has been almost a year since oldest son started his AROTC application, ultimately receiving 2nd round scholarship. He has been working on PT all summer, gathering his gear, and leaves for AROTC orientation in a few days. He sent and received an encouraging letter from a classmate finishing up Swab summer CGA and while he is excited also showing some nervousness his mother and I have been keeping in. Posters on this Forum were very helpful as we navigated this new area. The AROTC updates on applications, DODMERB, CULP and CIET were very informative, along with basic info on socks, boots, backpacks and headlamps. I regularly emailed him links or clippings of areas I thought would be useful also which he may or may not have read. Hoping regular AROTC posters keep the information coming on all aspects of AROTC and the thereafter. Best of luck to all in this new application cycle and keep the faith.

Good luck to all. Similar status, started process late spring 2014, summer-fall campus/battalion visits, 1st board 4 yr winner, college acceptance, Dodmerb dq, waiver, college orientation, first APFT,
battalion orientation Thur, contracting ceremony Friday on football field -

came to forum after the fact but very very helpful. Thanks much.

Congrats to your son. I am also thankful for all of the support and advice offered on this forum. My DS won a 3 year AROTC on the 2nd board and leaves Tuesday for college.
On a different note, I feel bad for his roommate who had won a 4 year AFROTC scholarship and was awaiting a waiver due to a nut allergy. He drove several states and arrived at college orientation yesterday and then found out his waiver was denied. His parents can't swing the 66k tuition and he had to withdraw from the college. I just feel bad that the kid and his parents drove several hundred miles before getting the bad news.
Now, my DS is worried that some non-ROTC student will be put in his room and be on a different schedule.

My kd shared a room with a non-ROTC kid on a different schedule. They made it work. It's really not an issue unless one of them makes it so.

I didn't want to create a new thread, so I figured here is the best place to thank the forums.

Today I contracted at Norwich University as a 4-year winner. Without the constant guidance (I estimate I've visited this page 1,200+ times) from all of you guys out there. Id of certainly been lost more than I will be as a 2nd Liutenant during my map reading in a few year if I did not have this resource.

To all those looking to apply-do it. If it has crossed your mind at all-do it. Even if you decide you cant do it, at some point you had an idea you could and that is the one you should follow.

My phone gets taken tomorrow, good luck to all.

Congrats Kronk! I am so happy for you - best of luck as a rook and hopefully my son will be there with you in one more year.
Go Cadets!

Thank you to all of the posters on this forum for the support and information. I am an engineering teacher and I refer students to this forum often because it has been so helpful and informative. We are leaving tomorrow to take our DS for orientation. Good luck to all and God bless you!
