Hello Everyone, just found this site/forum.

I have been working through the process to get in to KP and seem to be at one of the last steps and have become a little
concerned and would like to know what you think. I am class of 2013 male hopeful. (Added male to help with my question below)

My parts I and II went in early along with all letters of recommendation. The DODMERB physical has been completed.

In November a “Conditional” Appointment letter was received ( around Thanksgiving) and it was dated Nov 13. I think I have learned this letter is known as a “letter of assurance” and really is not too significant. It contained four “conditions”. They are:

1- CFA completed by 60 days of the date of this letter.
2- Nomination by an appropriate member of Congress.
3- Being Medically qualified.
4- Continued excellent performance during HS senior year.

Since receiving the LOA, I have been nominated by one of our Senators, the Medical Status field, on the application status screen online has been changed to: “Qualified” and the CFA was just completed last week and mailed in. I realize the CFA should have been done sooner, however, for a variety of reasons it took a little longer than expected......I will not
bore you with those details. Here are my scores:

Throw: 63
Pull up: 8
Shuttle: 9.5
Sit-ups: 66
Push-ups: 48
Run: 7:12

So, what is my concern? Well basically it is the CFA. My scores seem low and I am concerned that if they don’t measure up my one chance will be lost. Please let me know with all honesty what your experience(s) tell you. It is clear to me that minimum CFA scores are sort of a mysterious part of the application process. I guess that is for a reason, but it sure is causing me to lose a little sleep.

Thanks everyone in advance,

KP2013

Congratulations on completing the contingencies of your LOA, future-Midshipman KP2013.

IMHO, you should look for you "Appointment Status" to change very shortly. :thumb:

CFA

I agree. That being said, i would strongly advise you to begin a workout program
before Indoc or you will be huffing and puffing this summer:) Congratulations!

Hey Kp13,
You have an LOA and have satisfied all of the requirements as far as I can see. My son is in almost the same "boat " as you at KP. Namely, he has one more thing to satisfy in order for his LOA to turn into an appt. However...his last requirement is the nomination. With that said: your CFA scores are better than his, and his online status lists his CFA as "pass"--so I think you will be okay and will be receiving an appointment. Actually the LOA is a pretty big deal, so don't worry. Keep your grades up in school, keep exercising and improving your CFA stuff. Have you checked your online status? KP admissions has been awesome about updating that status very quickly. So, since it is the weekend, it might be early next week, just relax. My thought is you will be fine.

Congratulations!

Don't worry about the CFA. If you haven't passed, they'll let you know and have you do a retake. They did that with our daughter before she even had the LOA.

I second the recommendation to keep up a work out program. You'll want to be in top shape for Indoc. Otherwise, enjoy the rest of your senior year!

Thanks for the early replies.......you all sound just like my parents! I am really going to work on the running and cardio stuff. I need to drop a few pounds too.

Hi,

If you want to judge how well you will do with PT at KP here is a link to the Navy's Physical Readiness Test (PRT) standard. You will take this test several times during Indoc and twice a year while at KP.

http://www.navy-prt.com/malestandard/malestandard.html

Simply find your age and see what the standards are... The test consists of a sit and reach, max push-ups in two minutes, max sit-ups in two minutes and a 1.5 mile run. Each is pretty easy to pass taken separately. You need to be able to conduct each event back to back with just a few munutes between events.

Test yourself and see how well you should do. You need to be in at least the "good high" range.

I have to say that your posts are very well written. So many people write in some sort of lazy short hand on line and it does not speak well of them - especially when they are seeking advice on getting into an Academy. I also appreciate that you are doing this work for yourself - this will serve you well at KP. More and more often it seems to be the parents who are asking all the questions - don't get me wrong, there is a place for that. But after ten years as a field representative, I find that parents seem to be doing more and more of the work.

Good luck and welcome aboard,

USMMECOM

Thank you for the information and compliment. I will be 17 when reporting for INDOC (optimism)

Yes, communication is one of my father's pet peeves. He has drilled in to me that how I communicate both written and verbal is key to success.

Your message about candidates doing the leg work for themselves is EXACTLY the message our liaison/field rep has communicated to me and my family. My father has asked me over and over and over to evaluate my true to desire and interest in the USMMA. I have always been, shall I say, STRONGLY encourage to finish whatever I start.

Oh My!!!!!!!

Just got home from Physics exam, checked the USMMA site for my Candidate Status. It now shows Pass on the CFA and Principal on the Application Status fields.

:groupwave: :jump1: :band:

It is really falling in to place. Others here have said to stay healthy.......I'll try.....gotta call my parents.
