Your CBT Cadre -- AMA*

No one fails Beast in its entirety. Where I've seen folks struggle is when it comes to learning how to put others above yourself
Can you give a specific example of what this looks like at BEAST? Conceptually I understand but how does this play out in actuality?

Not helping your peers when they're struggling on rucks, transferring your bags on R-Day, obstacle courses... lots of opportunities for team play.

Oh! I want to watch that now.
Yeah, just be a good person when you can. Even if it hurts a little it'll hurt less in the long run. "Harder right/easier wrong," etc. You won't be perfect at it during CBT but if you invest yourself into the West Point experience you will understand it when you get closer to graduation.

So the issued items on R-Day plus items you brought, do you unpack and leave in your assigned barracks?

I understand the cadets sleep in the barracks for a few weeks. This means doing some laundry is possible?

You will leave most of your things in the barracks when you go out to the field, if that is what you are asking.

You will have a chance to do laundry, but it only gets sent out about once a week. I recommend bringing two weeks worth of underwear/socks etc. Boot socks can be dried and worn for multiple days (like two or three--not a week, please...) so you do not need 14 pairs. You will be supplied more than enough white socks. The issued black socks and boot socks are pretty crappy so I recommend purchasing your own. If you get black boot socks you can wear them with low quarters as well.

My personal favorites:

Boot socks: https://darntough.com/collections/t...-t4022-tactical-boot-midweight-tactical-socks (expensive but worth a pair or two for rucks--they are leagues beyond Fox Rivers in my opinion).

Boots: https://www.danner.com/men/military/tanicus-8-coyote.html or https://www.bellevilleboot.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=126
I've tried a bunch of pairs of boots. I probably have some of the worst feet in existence... these both work well for me and will probably work for you.

I have heard that some people brought two pairs of running shoes to beast. Is that allowed? It doesn't say that on the packing list.

Why is the 550 cord recommended? What would we use it for?

I have coyote-colored socks for my boots. Would they be allowed at beast? It only says black and green are permitted on the packing list...

1. You can. You don't need it. Only things you're not allowed to bring are listed on the packing list as such.

2. You'll use it for a lot of random fieldcraft. Don't bring it, you can buy it at the C-Store long before you need it.

3. Yes, that's fine. AR670-1 approved.

Sorry for the delay, I am currently at CTLT.

CTLT with which unit ma’am?

Good morning,

I am a rising Firstie and will be Cadre for Cadet Basic Training this summer. I will have a good number of you in my formation. I figure there are probably some questions out there about training, administrative, etc that the underclass on here cannot answer. Feel free to pick my brain, within reason (some things you must experience firsthand). This is a busy time of year as a cadet so please limit questions to things you could not first find in the search bar!

Are pull-ups tested during r-day?
