YOUR DOGS, CATS & Other Domestic Fauna - Cute, sad, buff or silly

Can't remember if I posted this before or not. I am at that stage where I open the refrigerator and see the mail I was looking for yesterday. So here is my attack cat.

Speaking of Attack Cats, @OldRetSWO posted the following cartoon on a different thread and it clearly deserves an encore here:

This is one of the best post ever! Here’s our companion PINGU (a SHIBA-Inu), my daily walking buddy. Our MIDN transferred responsibilities before heading out to I-Day. Now it seems, we will have him for another…many years ^^ post graduation on Friday May 27!

Love that face. Surely he has a Bill the Goat collar and leash?

Love the shibas. The classic position on the counter. Ours does it behind while I eat. Just waiting for a something to drop.

SHIBAs have the attitude of a big cat. More cat than dog in spirit and attitude. They’re loyal to the family, fun to be around, but hard to coach due to their independence of 99% Wolf DNA.

As I tell people they're pack dogs. Cool if you are in the pack, no so much if you are not.

I love just watching TV as I know he will eventually come lay to next me. First picture is near The Memorial bridge. Helicopter over head.

Does anyone else here have a mental list of Next Dogs’ Names? My dream set of boxers has always been Samson and Delilah. I’ve got a hankering for a dog named Billy. Just haven’t met him yet. Ditto a Harry and a Lily. DH nixed Laura as that was his mom’s name.
Really want to get a Shepard as our next dog. All the years with a Shiba (which I love him). You have to get him on two leashes or he will escape. He is always out thinking us. I want a Belgium or German Shepard. A dog I can take to the fields and just throw the ball to for hours. Also, no one on our walks will probably wanna talk and pet. ;-) I will name him or her "Tiny".

DW wants to take in a few retired service dogs. I know I am fighting a losing battle.

I’ve had German Shepherds my whole life and in my opinion there is no better breed. (You can look through this thread to see some of mine.) You need to really be ready before you take one into the family. They are incredibly smart, which is a blessing and a curse. They will try and please you to no end, but communicating to them what you want can take a lot of training. They try and find their own way to accomplish things other than what you show them because they are so smart. It takes patience and work which never ends. They also like to be defiant a lot. Imagine a 3-year-old’s temper paired with a 16-year-old’s defiance. They also get bored easily and will create their own fun if you don’t engage them. Their own fun often involves destroying things. There’s your dog.
However, once you get them trained they are as loyal as can be. My experience is that each Shepherd will find it’s own human in the pack and stick with them. They choose, not you. Males tend to defend an area (your house and yard) whereas females tend to defend their human. Not that they can’t do both and will, that’s just what I’ve noticed. Both of our current Shepherds have chosen me as their human, but if I’m traveling they sleep on either side of my wife.
Good luck with your plan!

A lot of what you described are traits of the Australian Shepherd I had.

Your description matches my dad's. For the last 40 years of his life, he had pure blood German shepherds. His last dog was an Australian Blue Heeler.

Amazing dogs!

I love him. He looks just like our PINGU! Mine is kinda big size for Shiba, 50lbs. How big is yours?
Was up to 40lbs. Doctor STRONGLY him to go on a diet. He is down to 36 now. He usually towers over other shibas. He is still so fast though even after an ACL surgery.

DS got home from college two weeks ago. He went tight to the toy and got his ball. Ran to DS and dropped it at his feet.

Ours hates puppies. Off leash puppies will try to agree him and he turns into a rage machine on the puppy. ;-)

He has been a great family member. He loves the camera.

Lazy cats on a warm summer afternoon. Cali is the tortoise shell & white, Ghost is the gray and Fannie is the tabby. The last two are brother and sister from the same litter. All three are 13 months old.
