Your generation

My senior year. Nothing really significant, but things I really remember:

1. Margaret Thatcher elected as the first female Prime Minister of Great Britain. "IMO: Along side of Regan, was one of the greatest leaders in modern history". At the time, I simply remember her being the first Female.

2. 3 mile island nuclear accident. I'm from New Jersey, and Pennsylvania isn't that far away. Even Harrisburg.

3. I remember in all our newspapers, that the Sahara Desert had snow for almost an hour. We all thought that was pretty cool. I also remember later on, some people said the earth's climate was changing because of all our pollution in the air. Almost a deju vu. Now it's "Global Warming". Too funny.

My senior year...

The Broncos lost Super Bowl!
Just a few I remember...

Steve
USAFA ALO
USAFA '83

That could be one of like 15 years...:shake: Not as bad as the Bills, though. At least the Broncos finally got a victory...

Let's see...during the year I graduated:
The Marine Corps barracks in Beirut was bombed
The U.S. lost the America's Cup
M*A*S*H* airs its final episode

Discovered Fire!

and....

Embargo on China ends
Led Zepplin IV (Stairway to Heaven, Black Dog)
Disney World (Orlando) Opens
Ed Sullivan's last show
Roberto Clemente World Series MVP
Two lunar landings (I think)

The year was 1979, I was a sophomore at Millersville University, when word broke of the accident at TMI. Within 48 hours the campus was a ghost town. The school was closed for a week, after the accident. Came back home to Harrisburg. It all worked out. I might Harold Denton, who the big wig from the NRC under Carter, very smart guy.

I think anyone in NJ/PA will never forget TMI. We actually had kids enroll in school because their parents evacuated to NJ, only to get to our school and have it shut down due to Asbestos found.

I have to say looking back early 80's was so much better regarding music than late 80's.

Not my graduating yr., but I suspect it was for some here, yet they didn't pose these as memories:

Carter boycotting Olympics
Miracle on Ice
Geraldine Ferraro
Grins and giggles: Mary Hart's legs! Us older posters know who Mary Hart is and should know the story about her legs.

I wonder if we have anyone here that has Llyod Bentsen, paraphrasing, "I knew Jack Kennedy and you sir are no Jack Kennedy" in their memory. 88 was Bentsen, shortly followed a few yrs later on how to spell potato!

OBTW, I asked Bullet what he remembered for his yr., originally said "nothing", than said Falkland Island invasion. You know he is a guy because a woman would have said Prince William was born and would have asked where on earth is Falkland Island?

P.S.

TPG that explains why the escalators are always out at the Metro stations!

Achille Lauro
Calvin and Hobbes

Playing Euchre, Monday Night Football, John Lennon has been shot,,,,,,
WOW!
Funny, Back then I had one Beatles album, Abby Road. A few years ago I gave that music to my DS. He became hooked and started playing guitar. I then started backtracking and buying the entire collection on CD. Then vinyl, then remastered, etc. I now am a HUGE Beatles fan! And yes, I am in love with Paul McCartney. DH seems oddly okay with this revelation! Like I don't stand a chance or something? DS then worked his way up through the 60's with The Stones, The Doors, The Who, Janis and Jimi, went back for some Chuck Barry and Elvis. Sprang forward through the 70's, a dabble in the 80's and then onward. Now he is my musical influence. There is some amazing music new today. You have to search but satellite radio makes that easy. I am so glad I able to share this stuff with the kid. Music has been one of the best topics we have bonded through. We actually respect each others opinions in this matter. When he was little I decided two things I wanted him to learn. How to fish and how to play guitar. As a single mother I wanted to know he could someway manage to feed himself if ever he needed to. Sounds like I was shooting a little low, huh? Now he is at an academy, pinch me!
