Hey, forum!

I’m a recently-christened yuk here and ready to answer all of your questions. They can be about any aspect of the academy or plebe year, or even admissions. I’ll be happy to give everybody pointers, and if I can’t answer your question myself, I will ask another cadet.

I also happen to be a female yuk, so if you have questions about being a woman at West Point, send them my way!

Sure, I'll start! My DS is applying this year for 2024.
1) What are you doing inside answering these questions on such a lovely Sunday afternoon? Just kidding, no need to answer that.
2) Where are you from?
3) Did you apply to the other SA's or ROTC programs? If so, to which other programs were you accepted and why did you choose USMA?
4) How have you enjoyed the experience thus far?
5) What surprised you the most?
6) What is your academic major?
7) Do you play a D-1 or competitive club sport?
8) What's been your favorite summer training or other extra training / activity?
9) What do you think you'll branch into and why?

Thank you for your service and taking the time to answer this.

Do you know anyone who has been or is being “out processed” and what kind of things lead to one being removed from West Point?

As a parent, I know of them.
New Cadets can be (and are) separated starting as early as RDay and beyond for many reasons. Early on is typically medical reasons or they simply don’t want to continue. Once the academic year starts, there are still medical separations due to severe injury or illness which causes the Cadet to become medically unqualified to serve. Some additional reasons for separations is due to poor academics or honor violations. Regarding the academic situation, there is an enormous amount of resources to help anyone struggling to meet standards. The Cadet is counseled and given corrective actions to help them succeed. Often times a Cadet may “flunk out” because they don’t want to be there, and it’s a way out. Many, but certainly not all Cadets struggling to meet academic standards will be given the tools of additional instruction and support needed for them to meet academic standards if the Cadet chooses to execute them.
Honor violations resulting in separation can happen as well, and can happen as late as just weeks before graduation depending on the severity of the infraction and the Cadets past history.
Cadets can also choose to separate prior to Affirmation their Cow (junior) year with no financial obligations to pay back to WP.
I’m a believer that anyone admitted to WP and wishes to graduate will ....if their heart is in it, they do the work, choose to stay out of trouble, and does not receive an unthinkable injury or illness (which sadly happens) deeming them medically unqualified.
