DS just got confirmation he's been awarded a scholarship. Since he hadn't heard anything, he assumed he wasn't selected and called the Recruiting Officer to coordinate getting his application updated for the late board. The Recruiting Officer told him he didn't need to update his application as he was on the list of selectees.....
We're over the moon. It's been a bit of a journey. He competed last year as a high school senior and was competitive, but not selected.
We were prepared for that and switched to plan B as he went off to school as a College Programmer (with plan C, D, E....in our back pocket). He did well in the unit (summer orientation, field exercises, NROTC labs, PT) and had a good academic semester although to be honest, I don't think the board saw most of that as the early board met before most of his "updates" posted.
Main reason I'm posting here now is not to brag, but to encourage those still in the hunt. Often "no" doesn't mean "no"...it just means "not right now".
Last, it seems each District and RS notifies selectees differently. Some here have posted they got a packet in the mail first, some got an email, some got a call. For some reason, my DS's recruiter was waiting until he was back at school so the Marine Officer Instructor at his university could tell him.....
oh...and the portal still hasn't updated.
Good luck to those still on the hunt and don't get discouraged. Keep working. Keep striving. Semper Fidelis.
edit: he submitted from the the 9th Marine Corps District (basically Chicago to upper Arkansas).
