Hopefulmid19- I am sorry. My DS was on the island until today also. Such a difficult reality. Where are you from? And my best to you in your future endeavors- as I have followed your posts.
Hey, this might be the wrong time, but I was just wondering what your college stats were this year such as gpa, extracurriculars, etc. I am also a re-applicant from New York, so might find something in the mail tomorrow, but just trying to like compare as I have been doing with all college re-applicants who received the dreaded TWE.Thank you for the well wishes. I'm from Pennsylvania. It's definitely been a tough day. Best of luck to your DS as well.

Wow, three noms and still couldn't get it, so sorry plus with a job and straight As, I hope everything works out for you in the end!!!It's no problem. I hope better luck travels your way. I am an Arabic major. I had straight A's. I commuted to school and was a member of the commuter council. I also worked 40+ hrs/week at a job close to home. I passed the CFA and had three noms.

Thank you, I've heard third times the charm, hope you get it!Thank you. I just sent in my preliminary application for C/O 2020. Good luck to you, fingers crossed you find a BFE in the mailbox soon.
ca2nemom, the best advice we (BGOs) can give you is to have your son call Admissions to find out if this was simply a number games or if there was an area that became a hurdle. I wish you and your son the best.
If people are going to blame admissions for having a "double standard" on this forum, then there are an "n-th" number of standards that we seem to forget about, yet no one complains or suggest those are also a "problem" (they are definitely not an issue in my house). For example, some candidates of various backgrounds, some candidates in areas that are under-represented at USNA, etc. might (and I say might because their records might be very strong, as is...just like a recruited athlete might have a strong record) get more consideration. Having this representation at USNA is important to model the brigade after what the "real" Navy and Marine Corps look like. That is just how this process works. Every year, as a poster noted, we see the same this same debate. If "we" are extremely concerned that USNA is not admitting the "best of the best" then I would suggest those individual write their Members Of Congress stating such and with a solution to this problem vs. complaining about a broken process (and consistently blaming a certain group) on this board, if it is such a waste of taxpayers dollars.
Again, I have confidence in the Admissions Office to choose the right make-up of the class, a job that certainly isn't easy.
I agree with JTGib13, let's get this back on track!
Sorry about all the other TWEs my DS did take the BGO's advice and email his regional director and promptly received a nice email back that he was one of his strong triple qualified candidates and basically there was not much room for improvement they basically didn't have an empty spot for him as this years acceptances were down from previous years. He encouraged him to reapply for 2020 and get good grades A's in college and that's what he'll need for next year make sure he does as well in CFA as he did this year. And that this time of year is the hardest for them to do the cuts. So that said all of you that made it this far it was a hard decision for them to send the TWE. As for my son he's still in the game at West Point but the Chancellor from the Largest University here called him and gave him a scholarship to be in his Chancellors leadership class and he's received numerous calls and emails happy for him to attend and ROTC has already called him and put him in the ROTC Community Living and then there is still Norwich and Citadel, so many awesome options to choose before he starts his reapplication process back to the Academy. In this discussion I have not read one word about BGO interview notes. I think it is taken for granted that high achievers do well with this. The BGO interview is part of an applicant's package that no one here has privy to and an unfavorable or questionable one can sink an application faster than than a torpedo. To echo what has been stated here, the application process is not perfect but works very well. Cheers everyone and congrats to the incoming Class of 2019.
Well, thanks for the correction. Cheers.I would not say that an unfavorable BGO interview can "sink" a candidate. IF backed up by facts, an unfavorable interview won't help. But I've seen more than a few candidates who weren't viewed favorably by BGOs still receive appointments.

I received my TWE last Friday and a DD at my school received her BFE this week. We both had competitive notations from the same MOC. Great for her, but it's hard to understand that I had a higher class ranking, higher ACT scores, four sport letters of which one was team captain, a number of leadership positions, worked part-time, attended STEM and NASS of which she have done or very little of these experience. The admission's selection process is no less fair at the academies than it is at just about all other universities. My DD was valedictorian, school newspaper editor, national merit finalist, class president of a school of 2000 students, and was the prom queen. She was denied from Harvard. A Hispanic student at her school who had several B's in classes with my DD, and who wasn't very active in other school activities or sports was accepted to Harvard the same year. That really burned my DD. Obvious racism/affirmative action. She ended up going to another good school and is now a corporate banker in NYC. It worked out pretty well for her in the end.
I was told today that the daughter of my co-worker was accepted at Harvey-Mudd in Math/engineering as an under-represented minority. She didn't have the stats to otherwise get into the school. Her minority is that she is a white female. So the racism/affirmative action unfairness actually worked in her favor.
I tell my kids to just do their best on the things they can control and not worry about the system. The admissions process probably isn't perfectly fair to everyone. But it is what it is, and we can't change it. So move on.
I also told my white sons that if there is a minority female from our district with close to the same stats, that minority female will get the appointment from our district and my sons will need to be high enough on the NWL to be selected. The admissions process is what it is. Move on.

I copied this from a post on the West Point forum page, hope the link works, Sledge is the original poster. it really drives home how difficult this process is and how well qualified all of you really are, to have made it this far. Keeping all of you in our thoughts, we truly understand the highs and lows of this journey. God Bless
That makes sense about females as they told the Congressmans military liason that they took a female (who also had less qualifications than DS) when he called Academy, for a similar reason, from the same MOC. He actually had 3 nominations. Sorry about your TWE looks like DS received his on the same Friday. Only took 2 days to get Plan B done. It's so late in the game had to do it fast before he lost plan B. But things can still change as USMA are still filling their classes then all deposits will be lost but at least he's covered in something he wants to do, having an extra year to prep for college life and compare ROTC to academy life and being picked to study with the Chancellor of the University on leadership one on one isn't so bad he's only 17 when he graduates, life decisions at this age are hard but he is determined to serve his Country after 4 successful years in JROTC. I'll be honored to pin on his top ranks of Brigade Commander next week as our Congressman flies in to present him a saber for his accomplishments at the JROTC Military Ball. So all with TWE's keep going it's not the end even though it seemed that way checking the mailbox that day. I'll never understand what the admissions board is thinking , but he is a very persistent determined kiddo and will be successful in all he does as I'm sure all of you will be. I believe God has plans and nothing we do can change them. No regrets he worked hard as all of you have to get where you did! One door closes and another one opened its all good! And yes he is going to reapply to class of 2020. He's always been go navy beat army even though he's spent 4 years in Army JROTC. If accepted to West Point it will be hard to say the opposite....on the other hand the Army ROTC is a more active group than Navy ROTC in the landlocked midwest...decisions......decisions!I received my TWE last Friday and a DD at my school received her BFE this week. The only feedback I received was that the Academy is trying to increase it's female appointments to 28% this year.
No regrets!!!
