For those who are wondering..my avatar is a photo of my DS (Matt). It was taken and published by our local paper June 2012. Matt (as ASB President) is addressing over 900 fellow students in the 2012 graduating class of Woodrow Wilson Classical High School in Long Beach, CA.
Wilson is ranked (by enrollment size) as the 15th largest High School in the Nation. The name may sound familiar to many from the 2007 movie Freedom Writers starring Hillary Swank and Patrick Dempsey and based on the book The Freedom Writers Diary. The movie and book are based on a true story and the setting takes place right after the LA Riots in the mid 1990's.
The photo is very special to me as it portrays Matt in his very last task as the ASB President of this well known, once very troubled high school in his home town of Long Beach CA before trekking 2500 miles across the country to Daytona Beach, FL to begin work on Phase 2 of his life, becoming an officer in the USAF.
