    USNA NASS e-mail

My DS2 got an e-mail today re: being accepted to NASS. However, the e-mail address looks a bit odd. We have seen alot of scam e-mails lately, so I want to make sure this is correct. The sender e-mail is admissions@usnamail.usna.edu. Is this legitimate? FYI: The e-mails we have received...

Question about most important AP classes during senior year

My DS attends a Catholic school whose prerequisites for AP classes are stringent. His plan was to take AP Calc AB and AP Lang, among others his senior year . However, even though he has high A’s in pre calc and English 3, the school is requiring him to take community college Calc and Lang over...

    Army/Navy Game

I hope this is the right forum for this question. I'm considering buying tickets next year through the concierge blue and gold donation level as a special surprise for my dad. There are two donation levels 1,000 and 2,500. For that donation, you get early access to ticket sales. Does anyone...

    BMU bummer

Cheese, My DS' big information packet we received with his letter of appointment devoted one page to answering the question of why we should keep personal medical coverage on our plebe. We took USNAs advice and kept it. I only got involved when (after 5 weeks of attempting to get an...

    BMU bummer

Haha, Chief, I'm not in his chain of command, I get the point. And yes, sometimes I think he'd rather die than to admit he needs to go to the doctor - his worst nightmare would to be on medical chit ( is that the term?) During this long illness he's only been SIQ for 2 days. Since this...

I respect your opinion, hoops, and those are solid reasons. I'll take that into account

    BMU bummer

We're not asking the navy to pay for it, that's why we maintained insurance. According to our information we received in our packet, that's why they suggested for us to keep medical on him - To get medical care if you are ill when on leave.

    BMU bummer

These are not rumors, this is from his own experience. He was ignored for almost 8 straight weeks, while extremely ill. He made numerous visits during which he got multiple directions to "come back when….( you hit another illness milestone)" Then when he would get that particular affect, they...

    BMU bummer

My sick plebe will not go to the BMU! He had such a bad experience with their lack of attention earlier in the year, that he just will not go. Is there any reason why we cannot send him to a private primary care doctor while he has the weekend off ? We maintained our medical insurance for him.

    BMU bummer

My sick plebe will not go to the BMU! He has an enlarged lymph node on his collarbone (2 weeks) and refuses to go. Is there any reason why we cannot send him to a private primary care doctor while he has the weekend off ? We maintained our medical insurance for him.

    MARSOT Screener

Infantry Skills Team - it's all new to me too! It's an extra curricular military skills team that competes against other NROTC, Service academy and even foreign military teams. They compete in obstacle courses, shooting and tactical skills. The big competition against Army is called Sandhurst...

    MARSOT Screener

My son was at the MARSOT screener. He said it was tough, but not compared to the IST screener, which he had finished a couple weeks prior. I'm thinking all the PT for IST had him well prepared. He was thrilled to make IST.

Do introverts do well at USNA?

My DS is on the low end of the introvert spectrum. I think that the regimented lifestyle of the service academy provides a level playing field for introverts. If you prove yourself to be a self disciplined tough hard worker, your company will respect you, regardless of whether you are a...

    Quotes from the plebes

The Mids I saw around town were acting like perfect gentlemen and women. However, I did see one Mid back on campus having a conversation with a Civ that dropped the F-bomb at least 4 times while loudly bragging about himself. My son turned to me, said nothing, but his eyes were big as...

    Validated classes

ok, thanks. That makes sense. I am very neutral on the subject of validation. In fact, If retaking a class makes his plebe year a bit less stressful, great! I'll leave it up to him if he want to validate Physics in his sophomore year.

    Validated classes

I'm not sure they were - yikes!

    Validated classes

Is physics a sophomore class? He had two years of AP physics - with perfect score.

    What did they ask for?

Cheesy Old military movies, his favorite coffee cups, and a LONG list of homemade meals, a large sleeping couch, a big screen TV and access to his Spotify account. Glad we rented a house!!
