⭐️ Countdown To Commissioning 2024 💫

For USNA '25 your time is coming. ...... Mids are allotted four free tickets to the reception – 1 for the mid and 3 for guests.
Thanks I have already put this into the memory banks.

My guy FaceTimed me from his RENTAL HOUSE. With his roommates. May 1 they got their keys, and took their first load over and had beers and hot dogs. They are over the moon, at their OWN PLACE. I cannot stop smiling for them
Assume rental place is near DTA as their first duty station is near the USNA? or is this temporary place as they need to vacate Mother B?
Asking as I start thinking through logistics for '25. Yes I am a planner even though my DS will have to do planning as well.

Thread incoming sometime post May 24th festivities....."Countdown To Commissioning 2025"

DS and two fellow soon to be ensigns signed their lease for NPS in Monterey. Super relieved to have that done and arranged. The logistics are in full swing navigating moving out, packing, cross country trip, commissioning week etc.

Exciting times for sure.

They have temporary assignments until later so this is temp TAD housing for that. They find roommates and places. They work it out among themselves. No need for you to preplan at all.

They can stay in their places starting this weekend (some rules about that). At some point they have to check out of Bancroft permanently. I would gander that most are excited to get out ASAP. But they can stay. They will know.

you all will have an incredible week!! I wish I was going to be there - we have friends staying at our house so I will be home watching commissioning on live stream!! super proud of your guy.....
I’m trying to get a few sundresses that will meet garden party, awards night, baccalaureate, commissioning day in order. Thank goodness for Amazon try before you buy. I don’t want burnt shoulders or knees.

Found out about a surprise guest that has just made my heart so happy. Major job change meant our DD and DH can’t be there the whole week, just the last three days so my new guest will complete my circle. Car rented (Tuoro was 1/4 the cost of commercial companies and more flexibility). House done. We aren’t doing reservations, just hanging at house with each other and our Mid and being present.

This is surreal, and yet so looked forward to. So many people and classes, students and supporters lost much during the pandemic. No one was unscathed.

But my heart is with my 2020 high school grad and 2024 USNA class who sure lost a lot of milestones and yet prevailed. Pinch me. Can’t believe it’s here already!!!!

Any of my SAF 2024 moms and dads want to hang out, DM me and we can meet up!

I need to get my girl to talk your DS about this program - she mentioned it and is very interested!!!

In typical form, DS managed to not be in a SINGLE picture that USNA posted for Capstone day. I'm hoping I get to see it after the engineering awards. Sheesh. Flashback to summer 2020 when pretty much his whole company was sidelined for plebe summer due to Covid. No pictures then either.
Getting sort of excited here, fly out to BWI on Saturday.

The 4 tickets to Supe’s reception - instant flashback to a mid with mom, dad, girlfriend with baby in arms - I stopped the mid before he could make full introductions all around, told him he was still a mid bound by MidRegs, and to not put me in a position where I would be duty-bound to take action.

I always enjoyed the Supe’s receptions as a BattO - working events for us. BattO, Company Officers and SELs were all assigned to “duty stations” to welcome, greet and move guests along toward the Supe or on to refreshments. People were having fun. There was always That Uncle who’d had a few pre-event drinks, or That Grandpa who tried to flirt, or That Mom who gave me the stone face because I had awarded restriction to her mid at Thanksgiving the year before (he was lucky he didn’t get hammered more).

Always great food! And live music.
The amount of new Dads that appeared on graduation day with infants and even some
Toddlers was always amazing. Usually we knew of them. I actually dated a guy as a Firstie who had one! My class had a female grad who was a year ahead of us and left to have her child, then came back and rolled to our class. She had a wonderful family who volunteered to raise her until she graduated. Luckily she lived just a few hours away and could go home a lot. Her daughter was there at graduation. She is now a proud grad as well as her mother and father are.

Emailing Mills liquor tomorrow night to reserve and pay for the 2024 Woodford Reserve bottle. They have 900 approximately on hand to sell. They start the sale on Saturday morning (I’ll be on a flight). Customer service has been awesome arranging my out of state purchase to hold bottles for our pickup. Class act business that pays back to the class.

I looked up what this Mills Liquor business is about and I have to say that is an amazing free service they are providing. A personalized (etched) bottle of bourbon would make a great gift for the newly commissioned mid. I hope they still offer this service in the future. Good luck picking yours up...let us know how it turns out.

They are beautiful, got them for our ‘22. It’s not a guaranteed offering, as it has to go through a USNA submission/approval process. People here have mentioned they haven’t been available every year.

Where did that Army/Navy game bottle come from? I must not have been one of the first 5000 in the stadium that day.

And, as a practical question since I am not a bourbon guy... do people drink from those commemorative bottles or just collect and leave unopened?

Woodford Reserve is a pretty inexpensive bourbon (in the big scheme of bourbon pricing), so I would personally just keep it bottled and not drink it.

If it were Blanton's, or Pappy, I'd be cracking it open to sip on special occasions. ;)

Well I’m not a bourbon OR whiskey gal. They are for display in my home. And gifting to sponsors/graduates etc.

I can PM you the info for the Army Navy bottle. I purchased as it’s a shout out to the SUB community, that my Firstie joined. It’s something that was shared on our parent FB page.

I have a specially etched bottle of WR from my civilian work that I bought as part of a fundraiser. However there was compliance issue raised (stupid lawyers ;)) and I actually had to sign a form that said I would never sell the bottle and when empty I would destroy the bottle. Bottle is secure on my shelf and probably not consumed by me.
