Yes, the MOC is notified as a courtesy first. The MOC may choose to notify the candidate by phone or mail or not at all. About a week or so after the MOC is notified, the SA sends out the notice to the candidate.

My son's appointment was under his presidential nom, so no moc was notified--we just got a surprise nice blue binder in the mail with a letter of the appointment on one side, and a very nice certificate of appointment on the other side, our BGO wasn't even aware of the appoinment offer yet.

falconchic88, I received my appointment the same way as your son (under the presidential category). The appointment folder came in a big brown envelope with no warning. For Air Force, my online status changed first. For navy, nothing changed on the website.

Does anyone know if your DODMERB status will change for the Naval Academy? My MOC said last week that I'd be receiving an appointment soon, but it's driving me crazy waiting for an official notification from the academy.
