Hey for those of you that got appointments, i was wondering what kind of files you guys had so i know where i might stand ><

any of you guys willing to share your scores/application?

It's nerve wrecking just waiting around for the BFE -_-

From the answers you got, and looking at the list, it seems like a lot of the appointments so far have been picks from the "top of the barrel". There's a lot of LOAs, prepsters/falcon foundation, and principle nominations. And even if they don't fit in those categories, their applications probably had awesome scores going for it. That's with outstanding academics, and well above-average CFAs and sports participation.

It's hard for the average candidate to compare themself to appointees this early in the game, and this early in March.

Also, an appointment is an appointment no matter when it is given. And they can give them out until a week before BCT if they have to. Just be confident in your own scores, look at some average entering cadet scores to compare to, and "hurry up and wait" (my new favorite phrase I learned here, I always wanted to use it :thumb:)

Don't get too wrapped up in comparing yourself to others on this forum. Your academics look really good. But I'm not sure if anyone knows what the AFA boards are looking for or what sort of magic they do behind the scenes with the WCS. There are also those with principal nominations and they are in a very different situation than those on a competitive slate. If it gives you any peace at all, just take comfort in the fact that there are lots of us in the same situation, and in the case of my DS he has alternatives. Given what I see from your academics - you will be fine no matter what happens.

Also keep in the mind that you first compete in your district or state slates.
I was the best of just 5 other people, which got me in.
You can be a superb candidate with well above the averages but not win the slate because of another candidate with a tad more credentials.
You can be a well below average candidate yet minimally qualified and still win the appointment because you're the only one on your slate.

For MOC nominees, you first compete with up to 9 others who were nominated by the same individual. If you're the top candidate, you're in if your minimally qualified. The MOC can decide the top candidate by the "principal" method, or the Academy decides by the "competitive" method. The Academy just waits til everyone's file on the slate is complete before making the decision. If you do not win the slate, then you compete nationally for the remainder of the appointments.

It's hard to say how the academy views your file, but comparing it to myself, your academics and sports participation is higher than mine. I actually don't really have varsity sports participation.

I think about applications in terms of strong and weak, even though admissions may not. It helps me feel balanced.

for me, academics are a +, sports -, and leadership a +

for you, it looks like academics +, leadership a self-admitted -, and sports nuetral to + depending on your CFA scores. That's up to your interpretation though. And the complicated part is all the other factors: the essays you submitted, recommendations, your job, your interview, courseload, race, family military background, other people on your slate.

It's a wild ride, hang in there. And being on a competitive slate is good too, it may not feel like a big accomplishment compared to principle nom, but I applied for my representative's slate and didn't even make it on. I'm competing nationally for a presidential nomination. Few people make it this far.

Well, I have three recommendations, one from my boss, one from my math teacher who I THINK used to be in the CIA cuz everyone seems to believe so but, of course he's not allowed to admit it, and the third is from my city's mayor.
I've taken a total of 12 honors and AP classes, in a competitive school.
I'm half Taiwanese and half Korean, and my grandfather was an admiral in the Taiwanese navy during the Communist revolution (I'm hoping it means something to the admissions office, even thought its not American ><)

Well I'm not sure exactly what kind of slate it is, as I was just told that i received a nomination.

Also, I also didn't receive a nomination from my representative, but did receive one from my senator.

I don't mean this to sound racist or discriminating, but they do look for diversity in the classes so it might help that you are Taiwanese and Korean

CA is considered competitive.

Your ethnic heritage does not matter because if you look at the WCS, there are no points given for that aspect. Highest WCS wins the apptmt for the slate.

OBTW it appears that the bulks are going out like they have been for the past few yrs...Wednesday. So in other words, if no BFE by Sat., don't play Snoopy over the Mailbox until Weds the following week....look at the dates on the list, they seem to have a commonality...bulk of them go out about 6-7 days apart. 2/17, 2/24, 3/2, etc.
