2020 Appointments

Congratulation to Future2020 on your appointment! Jbelonga and others still waiting, keep working on the plan B-E or more and remember to enjoy your senior year. For those who are also trying for NROTC, the board is going now and results from this board will be out in another 10-12 days. Ask your parents to grab a box or more of antacids from store/wholesale for this roller coaster ride! Good luck to everyone still waiting for any type of information.

If 4yrs scholarship is offered do NROTC call to congratulate you or just shows up on portal??

In early fall, a friend of DS received his NROTC Scholarship offer via portal and email. BTW, congrats to those who have received their offers.

So once appointmented should I tell son to close his FB & Twitter & snapchat accounts??? Or defriend inappropriate friends?? Think kids need few social media to connect? How do you balance?? Even for me I have few friends who send me inappropriate or politically distasteful news feeds & FB likes, which I hv no control??

I don't think cancelling accounts or unfriending people is necessary. To be smart, kids should simply delete things posted to their walls by others that they think are inappropriate. And most importantly, not post inappropriate things themselves.

Congrats to all who received appointments!! Those that received nominations should be very proud too. You have gone very far where few get to reach. Hang in there and best of luck!

My DS has everything done including nom and also just waiting for the appointment.

Same here. File has been showing Complete Pending Review since the end of September! The nominations posted end of November. In the meantime he has received the NROTC scholarship at his first choice school which is Vanderbilt. That's our Plan B.Waiting to hear on acceptance there but will know by end of Jan. I hope that the NROTC scholarship won't hurt his chances of getting the appointment? Does anybody know how that works? He told the Vandy NROTC officer that he was " keeping his options open" when he asked if it was his first choice:)

I would keep options open regarding both USNA and Vandy. Should your son get an appointment to USNA but some how gets injured BEFORE I-Day, say bye bye to USNA. USNA would NOT allow him to process (possible roll back to next year, as each case is different) through I-Day. In this scenario, he would still be able to keep his NROTC scholarship and use as his back up. Having a ROTC scholarship as a back up is what most people trying to get that elusive appointment to any SA do as we cant control ALL factors before I-Day. I think that most ROTC schools and various SA expect us to do just what your son is doing and is normal. The term that I have seen on these forums is "lots of bubble wrap". There a LOT of threads on this topic if you use the search function. Yale and UPENN both schools that have given me likely letters have told me the same thing.

DS portal status just changed this morning from "Complete Pending Review" to "Conditional Offer of Appointment LOA". and this...

"Congratulations! You are being offered a LETTER OF ASSURANCE (LOA), which is a Conditional Offer of Appointment. This means that if you complete the remaining requirements for admissions, you will be offered an appointment to the United States Naval Academy. Our records indicate you still need to complete items to become fully qualified for admission."

We are excited but guarded. What does it mean "...if you complete the remaining requirements..." and "...you still need to complete items to be fully qualified..."

He has a 'principal' nomination from our congressman, his medical/DoDMERB status is 'qualified' and on the portal on Required Actions it reads NONE and Special Instructions it reads NONE.

He has e-mailed his admissions counselor and Blue and Gold officer for clarification, but I was wondering anyone can shed some light on these 'remaining requirements'.

Hi there my son got the same letter on portal last week & found out he needed to do Body mass index from Doctor. My friends son in another state also got same letter but they wanted his end of Jan semester grades? Either way.... Congratulations with principal nom & LOA = appointment very soon!!!!

I've been waiting for awhile like many others, lurking for months on here. Same boat as some other candidates. Won a NROTC scholarship in early fall, nom to USNA in late fall, triple Q, waiting on final notice from USNA. "Complete Pending Review" I can not wait to find out!

When USNA was sending LOA's snail mail (not that long ago) the document was two pages and there were a series boxes specifying requirements and the one or more of the boxes checked indicated what was still needed e.g. nom, semester grades, DoDMERB, etc.

Going to a digital platform now I don't know what it looks like but I would hazard a guess; IF those boxes aren't there and nothing is noted it MAY be that while the language remains the same on all of the LOA letters as a template there simply are no further requirements that need to be filled. It may be that simple and your BGO can certainly clarify that portion of it for you.

In any event, congrats as it appears your DS is well positioned....now with the easy part over you can start stressing, as we all did, about everything coming soon enough. Enjoy the moment.

Exact same situation here. Can't wait to hear. Good luck!
