2021

Another thing I would like to throw out there is that even you are declined for SLE (I was initially declined and then called back for vacancies, but I had already committed to NASS) that does not mean that you are not competitive for an appointment. I got an LOA in Septemver and just accepted my appointment. Good luck to all 2021 hopefuls! Hopefully in the fall I can answer any questions you might have about BCT.
Congrats ClimberGirl!

I applied to USMA, USNA and USAFA. I haven't heard anything yet. I just looked at my portal on USMA and my status is pending. I play competitive sports and for me I plan to attend as many as I can. Tough decision between activities and summer session(s)? Good luck to all getting in and good luck to all with making their individual decisions.

This wait is long and I know the next is LONGER.
USMA is rolling, so you should hear soon. (I got accepted 3 days after I turned in my application). I think USAFA comes out on March 1st and I don't exactly know when NASS comes out. Good Luck! I too have applied to all 3.

2021 hopeful of USAFA. Just decided last month that I was definitely going to apply, so I too late for SS. If anyone's going to the USAFA's SS, let me know how it goes :)

2021 Hopeful, applied and got into SLE and NASS. Waiting to hear from Boys State.

I have actually decided not to apply. It was a very hard decision for me, but reality is military life would not suit me well (I'm athletic, but small and I scare embarrassingly easily.) I still have nothing but the utmost respect for those who choose to serve our nation, it's just something that I don't think I would be fit for.

I'll still hang around the site, and I do know a fair amount about the process, so ask away if you have any questions at all!

Deciding this path is not for you is, in my opinion, just as honorable and difficult a decision. Everyone should serve their country - the military is one way to do that out of many. Best wishes.

Thanks for the well wishes! It was a very tough decision, mostly because I'd been obsessed with West Point since the 6th grade. However, over time I think I was more in love with the idea of USMA than the actual realities of the place.

But, it did lead me to one big realization. The biggest thing that drew me to military service was that: serving others. I really enjoy helping others, especially those who are unable to help themselves. Not long after, I discovered what social work is! I researched that and anything related to it for a long time, but I think I've finally found what I want to do. I'd like to get my bachelor's in social work, and then either get an MSW or proceed to medical school and become a psychiatrist. Mental health awareness is something that's become very important to me.

I guess what I'm trying to say here is know yourself. It's hard to know who you are at such a young age, but it's so important, especially when it comes to things like this. Take your time, get to know yourself, and do what makes you happy!
