2024 Iowa vs South Carolina

Iowa by 100!!

It’s going to be weird come Tuesday morning, when basketball is over. As a sports fan, I dread this time of year. Not a baseball fan, basketball is over and football seems a long way off.

Although the WNBA draft is only about a week away. Games start soon-ish. I’m a new fan. This is the year that women’s basketball has taken off. It’s going to be interesting to see what kind of interest stick around.

I am pulling for Iowa.

Obviously I have been a big fan of this game for decades. I owe a big part, if not all, to how my life has turned out to that round ball. It’s a game I love beyond anyone could really understand. I love the game has been getting the attention it has. I think that is why I am pulling for Iowa. Caitlin has been a huge part of that growth. The amount of pressure she has faced is unbelievable. Dawn has also played a big part in it too. But, as a player, I hope Caitlin and Iowa gets the win. The entire team has handled this year well with all the attention they have gotten. Look out for Paige next year. I actually think she is a more complete player than Caitlin. Caitlin’s scoring and court vision are second to none. Her WNBA and national team coaches will introduce her to the concept of defense. Don’t sleep on JuJu, if she stays 4 years, she will break most, if not all, of Caitlin’s records.

Iowa! CC has just been awesome this tournament

A little sad to see the UConn women go (could’ve been dual champs this year!), but the Hawkeyes have just been dominating

Ridiculous!!

People are so awful sometimes 😞

As a father of athletes - it pisses me off. Gabbie is awesome - CC couldn’t do this without a good supporting cast. Love the whole team. I see tiktoks of Iowa all the time - they are great kids.

I wish the trash talking and unsportsmanlike crap would stop.

Very disappointing to see her get all that hate. I play basketball, and rewatching the play I think it was the right call. No player should ever get hate for playing the game of basketball.
How does the hate towards the player even make sense? She had nothing to do with the ref calling it. Or not.

Very poor sportsmanship.

I recently read an article about how legalized gambling has changed viewership of the game. People have money on the outcomes. And there are some are even gambling addicts. Its changed sportsmanship in the stands, and social media wise. Kind of scary.

IMO, It wont be long before it negatively affects college sports. Simply too many teams and sports to effectively monitor the points shaving or worse, revenge attacks on players.

Big Paige Bueckers fan because she's from where we lived for many years. So I cheered for UConn -- that, and they were the underdog. But I was so impressed by the defensive job Gabbie Marshall did on Bueckers. The UConn star ultimately got hers, but she wasn't as impactful as Caitlin Clark. It's a shame she didn't get a chance to take the winning shot, but that was hardly Marshall's fault.

All great teams need a player like Marshall. She has a non-scoring role on offense. But she's a feisty screen setter and selfless passer. She's a "glue player" -- the type who holds things together, usually to little fanfare.

I've genuinely enjoyed watching the women's tournament. A big part of the appeal for me is that their game is much more relatable to a mere mortal such as myself. They play below the rim -- a simpler game that relies more on fundamentals and teamwork than on sheer athletic pyrotechnics. The women are very athletic, to be sure, but it's a game that's simply more relatable.
